Obama camp releases ad targeting black voters

Is Obama's campaign in trouble?

Updated 6:30 pm. ET

(CBS News) The Obama campaign has its first ad of the 2012 cycle targeting the black community, a radio spot designed to increase turnout among a voter block that overwhelmingly backed President Obama in the 2008 election.

In the ad, which does not mention presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, a narrator says, "Four years ago we made history, now it's time to move forward and finish what we started."

"We have to show the president we have his back," the narrator adds. Later, as a chorus sings "we've got your back," listeners are encouraged to register to vote.

The spot includes a clip from one of President Obama's speeches, in which he says: "I refuse to pay for another millionaire's tax cut by kicking children off of head start programs or asking students to pay more for college."

A spokesperson for Obama for America said the ad will air nationally, but would not reveal how much is being spent to run it or how long it will run. The Grio website reports that the ad will air during the nationally syndicated "Tom Joyner Morning Show" and the "Steve Harvey Show."

The announcement comes on the same day a pro-Obama campaign group, Priorities USA, releases an advertisement to air in Latino communities

Listen to the 60 second radio spot.

hello

I listen to right wing stations in an effort to know "all sides." I am a lifelong democrat and when I heard this add I was sure it was a joke.

Apparently not I am so so so disappointed in the President I fought so hard to elect.

This is devisive and exactly what he said he would not do.....will I vote for him again.

Unfortunately in our system I really have no choice do I? Rmney clearly is going to foster the right wing agenda.

I am so sad that my Democrats have to resort to these tactics.

The more people hear from Mitt, the more they see that he is an empty suit. He was a corporate raider at Bain that caused a lot of misery for a lot of people, but he wants you to believe that he is a good Christian...right.

Your comment is not reflected in reality sjc, but you do express a fervent, hand-wringing hope of the left. You buy into a lot of hype. I'll take an empty suit over an empty promise, or worse, an empty failure, any day. And so will most people. And his religion doesn't mean anything to independents or undecided's either. The president's religion never really has, other than to an irrelevant fringe element. Get ready for change.

When Obummer ran the first time I didn't vote for him, I won't now either. You took a man that had 2 years experience in the senate, that only voted present and made him President. Any person that worked for my business for 2 years would NOT be elevated to CEO.
Sorry, the experience is just NOT there as now most can see. All the American people got was "Blame & Shame"

He is just sooooo arrogant and tries to speak as though he is black. He ISN'T ! ! ! He is HALF black and plays that race card just about as often than as Al Sharpton.

There is no doubt about it - - Obama is a likable kind of guy and makes all kinds of promises and tells a great story - - but just as he did while a senator - - careful to do do anything that he might be held responsible for - - just be "present"......... and blame everybody and everything else for things that people don't agree with him on.
He is no more of a leader than he is black.

???

The first half makes sense.

The second half, the President hasn't asked students to pay more for college. Especially as wages for work done requiring these degrees has stagnated or plummeted depending on field -- but he's effectively DEMANDED people to go back to college, and students are being gouged all over the place. While companies continue to receive taxpayer-funded subsidy, handouts, and even bailouts -- and even in return FOR offshoring jobs. That's truly twisted. People are indeed being fatigued from being gutted all over the map.

Source of 'demanded' claim, read it and determine for yourself if 'demanded' is apropos, over the top, or downplayed:

Still, we allow debt forgiveness for medical issues, credit card balances, and even gambling losses. Why the heck are student loans non-dischargeable, especially when - unlike gambling - people are trying to better themselves for their communities, country, and themselves? That's pretty twisted, too.

The statement was "he refuses" which carries over to not wanting to double the interest rates for student loans. This seems clear to me.
