Obama, Romney make cameos in CMT Awards spoof

(CBS News) President Obama and Mitt Romney showed they're not afraid to poke a little fun at the political process Wednesday night, lending their participation to a political parody video that aired during the CMT Music Awards.

The four-minute video, which pitted actress Kristen Bell and country music singer Toby Keith against each other in a faux competition to determine who would host the country music awards, featured a series of mock-political newscasts and attack ads questioning each candidate's credentials.

About a minute and a half in, President Obama weighed in from what looks like the Oval office: "This is one of the toughest decisions I've had to make since I've been in office. But I think I've decided," he said, deadpan, circling both names on a fake memo from Vice President Joe Biden on the issue. "I want them both."

Romney, portrayed speaking backstage at the event, joked that the stress of the presidential race was "nothing" compared to the CMTs.

"I thought the presidential election was a tough race. But it's nothing compared to the politics at the CMT music awards," he said. "I think I have a solution, though. I propose Toby and Kristen co-host the show."

"See? I just put two people back to work," he quipped. "You're welcome America."

The 2012 CMT Music Awards -- with both Bell and Keith hosting -- were broadcast live Wednesday night on CMT.
