Biden says Ryan budget would be "devastating"

(CBS News) WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Vice President Joe Biden continued on the attack on Wednesday, saying that it is "not enough" that President Obama has created 27 months straight of private sector growth and slamming Republican alternatives to the administration's plans to boost the economy.

"It is up and it is down, but it has been constantly forward but not enough," Biden told a crowd in North Carolina about the economy. "We have to do more we have to keep fighting through this period of transition and this God awful recession we inherited."

The vice president put the blame on Republicans in Congress, saying their proposals for the economy would not work.

"The problem here isn't so much what our friends, Republican friends, refuse to do, it is what they propose to do," Biden said.

He went on to say that Republican Rep. Paul Ryan's budget, which he called the GOP "blueprint for the economy," would be "devastating" for America.

"He is a fine guy but I think his ideas are not nearly as fine as he is a man," Biden said after calling Ryan a "bright handsome guy from the state of Wisconsin."

"I believe the Ryan budget will have a devastating impact on America," he added. "It is as if these guys don't know what made America in the first place."

The vice president spoke at Bio-tech Medical, a company that just opened in February after receiving federal funds. This was Biden's second trip to North Carolina this year.

The Ryan budget is simply another step in the war of the 1% against the 99%. Tax cuts for the rich and corporations mean the plan doesn't begin to cut the national debt for decades; meanwhile, insane cuts in discretionary spending, vouchers to replace Medicare, and reduction of the Social Security COLA mean that anyone who isn't already rich is in deep trouble. "Devastating" may be an understatement!

Since the COLA doesn't include food & fuel it's totally inaccurate.
What I thought was insane was finally giving us a puny raise (yippee) and then THE NEXT DAY announcing that food prices would probably go up about 20%!
Don't these people ever go into a supermarket? Are they tyhat stupid?
Food prices had already gone up about 40-50% when they made that announcement! I don't think ANY politician (defined as rich sobs) has any idea what it is like in the real world!
And since I am ALREADY PAYING FOR MEDICARE from my SS, what good would a voucher be? I can't afford a doctor now! Can I use it for food instead?

The reps seem to be determined to get rid of the elderly one way or the other!

Err I thought they only brought Joe out at drunken Christmas parties and Pin the tail the Donkey gatherings. This prototypical liberal is what epitomizes their faults and failures. Their entire agenda and ideology is a massive disaster. Joe you want to talk about devastating look at the 88 million People that are out of work and the 20 trillion dollars in debt that we are heading towards. You sir need to stay in the closet until Christmas. Because come November you will be out of a job.

Hey idiot - if they cut taxes for the rich we will be in a bigger hole! Who will they blame then? The people who fell for their garbage and voted them in? They sure will never say it was their fault! Their brains are so fried from constant lying they probably don't even know where they live!

Why don't you ask one of these jerks how they are going to balance the budget? That won't do it!

We really know very little about Ryan .... but we do know of vice - president biden ... enough to challenge his statement - that it is what republicans plan that is the problem ... rather than what they do or don't do while sitting in Congress ! As admirers of Delaware legislators - Carper & Carney who have struggled mightily to overcome republican intransigence in order to pass America - saving legislation .... we find Joe Biden's idea here - ridiculous !

The Democratic Senate hasn't passed a budget in over three years and Biden thinks the Republicans need to continue to pass budgets until he is satisfied. Obama's budgets got zero votes (0-414 and 0-99) in the House and the Senate this year and went 0-97 in the Senate last year. How do you bargain with a chamber unwilling to show you their plan? Compromise means laying your cards on the table and finding an acceptable middle ground.
This President will never lay out his plan (on paper) over the course of this election. He will tell you what he has done, why Romney is bad and that he needs more time to finish the job.

Obama tried to comprromise with bohener, and the tea party turned boehner down. So it's the tea party that doesn't know what compromise is.

Well, since you want specifics, how about black slaves, rich white men who owned slaves, and white indentured servants. Ahh, the good old days, just what the GOP is aiming for.
