Romney nears nomination with two more wins

Updated at 1:20 a.m. ET May 23

Mitt Romney won the Republican primaries in Kentucky and Arkansas on Tuesday, victories that puts him within striking distance of clinching the Republican presidential nomination.

With nearly all precincts reporting in Kentucky, Romney had 67 percent of the vote. With nearly all precincts reporting in Arkansas, Romney had 68 percent of the vote.

The race was actually closer on the Democratic side. In Kentucky,  President Obama's only rival on the ballot was "uncommitted." The president defeated "uncommitted" 58 percent to 42 percent, a result that reflects the president's deep unpopularity in southern states. (Though with almost all precincts in, Mr. Obama had won slightly more  votes than Romney overall.)

In Arkansas, Mr. Obama faced a primary challenge from John Wolfe, who had 41 percent of the vote with nearly all precincts reporting. Earlier this month, convicted felon Keith Judd took 41 percent of the primary vote against the president in West Virginia.

CBS News estimates that with his two wins on Tuesday, Romney now has 1,073 delegates. The former Massachusetts governor needs 71 more to reach the threshold of 1,144 electoral votes he needs to clinch his party's nomination.

Romney should cross that threshold next Tuesday when Texas holds its primary with 152 delegates at stake.

Romney's rivals have suspended their campaigns or stopped active campaigning, and he has spent recent weeks focused on the general election. The presumptive GOP nominee was scheduled to spend Tuesday evening at a fundraiser in New York, part of a three-day fundraising swing that his finance chairman told donors would raise $10 million.

Crimes of the Bush Cheney Crime Family during their Reign of Terror.

Cheney outed a CIA agent (Valerie Plame) that was working to find WMDs.

Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and Powell went on TV and knowingly falsified intelligence relating to WMDs. This led us to start an almost 10 year occupation that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Bushoccio was wire tapping American citizens without a court order.

Bushoccio allowed the military to use banned and illegal chemical weapons in Fallujah and elsewhere.

Bushoccio allowed illegal torture of prisoners against the Geneva Convention and other treaties that the US has signed.

Need more? You don't pay much attention to the news or fact or events do you? Now you know why I scorn right wingers so. And why it is so easy for them to lie and think they are right. OMG!

Mitler is a one term governor who thinks we should make him Fuhrer (I mean pResident) because of his BUSINESS experience. Unfortunately that is exactly what we DON'T need unless you are a fool Republicon who thinks backwards of the truth.

Robmee is still touting the same failed Reaganomics policies that brought America to its knees under the Bush Cheney Crime Family.

Robmee is such a sleazy slimewad who can trust a businessman like that? At least Obama has tried to so some good in the face of a failed and extremist Republicon Party that wants to see America fail so Obama looks bad.

Obama passed equal pay legislation, reeled in the vicious and greedy health insurance corporations, created millions of jobs through the stimulus and auto company loans and his bank accounts are in America. He also paid his taxes.

Yes that Bush Recession was very, very severe. Obama has created a couple million jobs at least, shut off the Fox Keeps You Stupid Channel (or any radio or TV show that has any of those people on).

Robmee is a plastic puppet for Wall Street that intends on finishing the Republicon wet dream of outsourcing, enriching his Top 1% buddies and cutting all our wages. With the giant corporations like Wal Mart in firm control they can and will do anything they want with no government interference. Count on it.

Robmee is just another filthy rich, borrow and spend hypocrite Republicon who has nothing to offer mankind. He wants to run government so they can maximize riches for their 1% masters at the expense of everyone else. And ruin the government that has mostly worked for almost 250 years.

I can't believe people are STILL stupid enough to fall for their lying, twisted and failed ideas. On top of that they are all fake Christians that would have been hated and feared by Jesus Christ. They are disgusting excuses for humans.

When you can't run on your record, you MUST be really bad. Zero experience, ZERO accomplishments, Zero outlook for prosperity, anyone supporting obama is simply ignoring the facts as a result of this radical administration.
His ONLY accomplishment, what he shoved down the throats of the American taxpayers, is now in the Supreme Court. He's sued MORE states & private companies than ANY PRESIDENT in HISTORY. And I think Michelle is STILL NOT PROUD of America, except now it's mutual.

If Kentucky and West Virginia are part of the South (they were never part of the Confederacy), then the southern and eastern parts of Ohio are also part of the South. Likewise, with Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida (especially western Florida), all states that, like Arkansas, were slave states and part of the Confederacy. How can FL, OH, NC, and VA be in play if Obama can't win 60% of voters in his own primary when he isn'tt even contested?

Months ago when Romney was struggling through the GOP primaries in the Deep South, the media characterized him as weak because he couldn't garner the support of social conservatives, some of whom are racists. Today, when Obama can't win 60% against no one in his own liberal party, the media imply that it's because people in the South are racists.

Even though Obama had 60% of the democratic vote, He still garnered MORE VOTES than Romney...which is why Obama will win this fall. Those who oppose Obama complain and those who support Obama vote.
