President Obama intended to announce his support for same-sex marriage on ABC's "The View" next Monday, a Democratic source confirms.

Senior administration officials say Vice President Biden's comments on NBC's "Meet the Press" sped up the timeline and forced the president's hand.

"I had already made a decision that we were going to probably take this position before the election and before the convention," he told ABC News.

Mr. Obama added that Biden did jump the gun, but he is not upset about it.

"[Biden] probably got out a little bit over his skis but out of generosity of spirit," Mr. Obama said. "Would I have preferred to have done this in my own way, in my own terms, without I think there being a lot of notice to anybody? Sure. But all's well that ends well."

And those who follow this guy to the edge of the cliff. The Pres attends a dinner that 99 % of the American population could not even work at. The money He collects will go into a so called war chest. After He leaves office what ever money that is left He Him self gets to keep it. So this Din Din will make him 14 million dollars just tonight. After all the money that will be collect form this special interest group. Who knows how much will be in that war chest. But hey what can we expect? He has all ways had people pay for his success all his life and really had not been successfull in any of it other then a master of smoke and mirrors. He recived (millions in grents from the Goverment) for that community action group. He of course had a pay check that most of us will never see. Its easy to become rich when u decide how much to pay yourself as a head of one of these groups. He the Pres never did any work for the people who elected him in Illinois , Recieved a pay check never was on site much to vote. Oh and what a sucessful career as a lawer? Guess what nothing there either. So tell me what? His total success is? Getting Bin ? That was started by GWB and the men and women who serve. Oh wow BIG OIL he made it disappear. He himself said that NO President could do anything about BIG OIL it was just to complex. Hows that hope and change working for all Americans? Seems like hes sitting down with dinner with the 1 and 3 % of the population more then all of us. But keep singing His Praise. Let's talk about gay rights. It's the only divisive issue left to talk about that he hasn't already dismally failed on. As if anyone gives a flying rat's a$$ about the issue to begin with, it's a political no-brainer.

I'm married to a lovely and extraordinary woman, we're expecting our first child in October -- and gay marriage does not lessen or degrade the value of my marriage (or yours or anyone's) in the least. Nor does it challenge my masculinity or her femininity. What a ridiculously fearful person it takes not to recognize the right of all people to marry anyone they choose.

Strong, smart, wise, brave decision Mr. President.

Well said. As a naturalized citizen ( a citizen by choice) I remain baffled over the selective granting and upholding of individual rights in our country. Our Constitution sets forth the separation of Church and State. The belief that a marriage is between one man and one woman is religious in nature. The proponents of this belief point to their Bibles to affirm it's origin. Not everyone in the US is a Christian and the beauty of our country is that everyone has a right to select their spiritual allegiance and practices. The imposition of this limiting definition of marriage is the Christian sector coercing it's belief through legislation upon anyone who is not of their persuasion. As a non Christian, but a deeply spiritual person, I resent this imposition.

Wow--what a guy--he has had 3 and 1/2 years- to show his support for ay marriage-and only after he kicks off his re-election campaign--he decides he's had a change of heart and now approves of gay marriage---HE IS DOING IT FOR THE CAMPAIGN CASH--DUHHHH

The question has arisen why Obama's position was evolving for 4 years, and it suddenly hatched at the start of his re-election campaign. It surely is a new campaign strategy to harness 100% of the gay vote, and reports today on other news channels say that political contributions to Obama's campaign are surging in - apparently from the gay community. There is no question that Obama will lose voters for his position, but, apparently, he banks to offset the loses - given the boisterous style of gay groups and activities.

The gay marriage issue is blown by strong cross-winds across the political spectrum, and Obama's evolution into a "Yes" for gay marriage is certainly not a "Golden Egg." But we have to wait and see if that "Egg" turns out to be "golden plated," or if he will get it in the face! Nikos Retsos, retired professor
