Obama attack video: Too "cool" to be president

YouTube/American Crossroads

American Crossroads, the Karl Rove-linked group that with its sister organization Crossroads GPS is hoping to spend $240 million helping Republicans get elected in the 2012 campaign cycle, is out with a new web video attacking President Obama as more focused on being "cool" than doing the serious business of running the country.

The spot, which is called "cool," shows the president dancing with Ellen DeGeneres, criticizing Kanye West, "slow jamming the news" with Jimmy Fallon, drinking a beer and singing an Al Green song.

Interspersed with the images, these words appear on the screen: "Four years ago, America elected the biggest celebrity in the world. And America got one cool president. But after four years of a celebrity president, 1 in 2 recent college grads are jobless or underemployed. 85 percent moving back in with their parents. Student loan debt exceeds one trillion dollars."

It concludes: "After four years of a celebrity president, is your life any better?"

The web video is reminiscent of an attack ad called "Celebrity" from John McCain's campaign four years ago. In that ad, images from Mr. Obama's huge and rapturously-received July 2008 speech in Berlin were interspersed with images of Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. The ad posited Obama as "the biggest celebrity in the world," with a narrator asking, "But is he ready to lead?"

Americans tend to relate to Mr. Obama more than his presumptive general election opponent, Mitt Romney: In the latest CBS News/New York Times poll earlier this month, about half of respondents said they could relate to the president, while only 34 percent said they could relate to Romney.

Crossroads' line of attack seems designed in part to challenge that perception: You may think you can relate to him, it suggests, but in truth he's just another wealthy celebrity living a life you can only dream of.

The Crossroads video comes amid a push from the president to reenergize the young voters who helped him to victory in 2008, an effort which also included stops on college campuses and that much-buzzed-about Fallon appearance this week. Mr. Obama plans to formally kick off his campaign on May 5 at a pair of swing state universities - Ohio State and Virginia Commonwealth - and has been spotlighting his effort to keep the interest rate for Stafford student loans from increasing on at the end of June.

In '08, Candidate Obama promised to get a Health Care Bill passed! For many decades even REPUBLICAN Presidents (T.Roosevelt, Nixon) wanted Universal Health Care but couldn't get it done. It took brilliant, persistent President Obama ( and Speaker Nancy Pelosi) to get it DONE!And TODAY, many people are ALIVE because of caring President Obama's new Health Care Plan. Look up, "Spike Dolomite Ward's Health Care Video."

Candidate Obama promised to get Bin Laden, the terrorist who funded the premeditated murder of thousands of American civilians merely going about their workday. President Obama GOT Bin Laden. Bush promised to get Bin Laden, too. But after years of NOT getting him, Bush declared in "sour grapes" fashion that he, "Didn't CARE" where Bin Laden was!!????! Bush couldn't get Bin Laden in SEVEN LONG YEARS!President Obama dramatically increased the resources NECESSARY to get Bin Laden. President Obama made the decison to employ the Navy Seals instead of bombing. President Obama ordered the extra helicopters that ultimately saved the mission. And President Obama gave the final order to go in.

President Obama said he'd get the troops out of Iraq. President Obama got the troops out of Iraq.
President Obama has tried to be a man of his word. Obstructionist, self-destructive Repub/TeaPubs have tried to thwart him at every turn, but President Obama has managed to deliver -- in some very big ways, anyway! We should make sure to donate and to reelect President Obama. And we should elect a majority Democratic Congress to work FOR our country -- instead of against it!

Simply the biggest deceiver we've EVER had in public office.
He's taking advantage of the very people he's claiming to help. Sadly, the less intellectually equipped are buying it.

I don't care how much anyone likes him. It is emphatically apparent, he's doing a terrible job.

Brilliant, caring Obama the Candidate in 'o8, promised to get a Health Care Bill passed. President Obama made good on that promise. For many decades even REPUBLICAN Presidents (T. Roosevelt,Nixon) wanted Universal Health Care but couldn't get it done. It took President Obama(and Nancy Pelosi) to get it DONE!

Candidate Obama said he'd get Bin Laden, the man who funded the premeditated mass murder of thousands of Americans. Persistent President Obama DID get him. Bush promised to get Bin Laden, too, but couldn't do it in SEVEN LONG YEARS -- finally throwing up his hands in "sour grapes" fashion and saying ON CAMERA, that he, "Didn't CARE" where Bin Laden was!! ????!!! President Obama dramatically increased the resources NECESSARY to get Bin Laden. President Obama ordered the extra helicopters that ultimately saved the mission. President Obama made the decision to employ Navy Seals instead of bombing. And President Obama made the final order to go in --despite the reservations of his advisers!

President Obama said he'd get the troops out of Iraq. President Obama has taken the troops out of Iraq.

President Obama tries to be a man of his word! If obstructionist Repub/Teapubs self-destructively have tried to thwart nearly his every initiative, that is hardly his fault. We need to reelect President Obama and make sure there is a NORMAL, Democratic controlled Congress to work FOR our country, not AGAINST it!

Obama is an excellent speaker and likeable- but he is a professional CON-MAN who says what you want to hear- he preaches to the poor that the DEMOCRATS are for the poor & the REPUBLICANS are for the rich- but Obama is owned body & soul by the super rich power mongers who control every move he makes- They have hidden his past (criminal) history at great expense and hold it as a ransom and he is their puppet- that is why GAS prices go up after the USA produced more oil than anytime in history & new technology to get the trillion barrels of OIL shale in Colorado alone- Obama is a FRAUD who has deceived America-

This is a beautiful example of the tinhat nutcase arguments that I adore reading. They do more for the re-election of Obama than any recounting of the fact that he has actually DONE what he said he was going to do, he DID pass a healthcare law, he DID pass consumer pretections against credit card abuses, he DID push alternative energy, he DID get bin Laden, and you are committing defamation and slander and with accusations of criminality without even a single example for the readership to analyze or pursue.

Are Republicans anti American? America's Number One Export is Culture. America's number one Cultural Export is American Style. "Cool" "Celebrity" are things We Export in great quantity and quality. What do they think other countries like about America? It sure as hell is not "dull"...
Are Republicans anti American? They must be trying to destroy Americas greatest export.
Are Republicans treasonous? Yes, they hate America, they hate our Culture.

When Obama took over stock market was under 8,000, now it is at 13,000. Twenty two straight months of private sector job growth. Almost 20% reduction in unemployment due to stimulus package and saving American auto industry.

Took us out of the Iraq quagmire and refuses to give in to the Israeli fascists to attack Iran that poses no threat to us. All with having the Republicons kicking and screaming.

Very true. Do not underestimate the power of entrenched money interests to launch a multi-pronged assault in the public square. There are paid trolls from the Koch brothers who blab the most inane nonsense on so many of these news web sites, their arguments are cookie-cutter Rove talking points, and these ahrill yapping piddling lap poodles of the rich do not even know that the disconnect from their minds to their keyboards is glaringly obvious to all but the comatose.

Ok after reading these posts as well as many many more on other articles over the years I have concluded every one is this country is a bit nuts. The problem with this country is you can not have a two party system. Any time there is two parties involved it becomes let me do what ever to when. It becomes I want my team to win! It becomes a constant attack on the other and no real issues are solved by either side. I have not made up my mind on Obama or Romney I'm sure I will but it is going to be whom I think can run the country and do right for me and my friends and family. I don't care what party they are from. I believe George Washington warned us about parties and if he didn't I'm sure someone did somewhere. Let us do away with parties. Let these candidates build themselves from the bottom up without a label on them. Let them tell me what they want to do not what the party wants them to do. Limit donations. Outlaw organizations, businesses, papers, unions etc from supporting one candidate. Get rid of lobbist. I would love to vote for someone who doesnt have a label of party next to them, but tells me their name and what they stand for. They chose a cabinet and appoint jobs based of quailfications only. Get rid of term limits so they don't feel complaciate and worry about getting reelected. They will have to do their job and get things done so as to be reelected again not relying on the party but what they actually got done. I can see it now. A local guy becomes a city counelor, city mayor, governor state rep or senator, works in a cabinet, becomes vice president, and then president. He is the guy who started at the low level and worked his way up building support as his accomplishments where depicted through out his political career. He raised capital needed at all levels. He asked for your vote becuase who he is and what he stands for and you gave it to him. That to me is America. The small guy who makes it big. The small guy who worries about you. If he stops doing so guess what he is gone. I honestly don't care if the same guy is in office over and over as long as he is doing his job. Many people have worked for the same company 30+ years and made it through because they did their job and was not fired. I have young nephew who is a die hard for one party. He does not see any value in what is said unless it follows that parties script. It saddens me because every generation is getting worse and worse. Their is no comprimise. NO PARTIES EQUALITY FOR ALL!!

We have the Top 1% big corporate party that pretty much runs America: media, military, Supreme Court, government.

The corporate lobbyists have infiltrated and also corrupted our election system.

Try as you might to get rid of the parties, but race is still a factor in America, and people inevitably would not seperate themselves on the basis of an individual's achievements, but rather on their "race." They are more concerned about what their friends would think and say as opposed to doing to right thing for the right reasons.

That is what is wrong with the party system today, especially the Republicans. Their motto should read: "Every man for himself, and remember God is not allowed to be a part of any of our government."
