Gingrich: Everyone in the world should have right to a gun

Newt Gingrich on Friday chastised the National Rifle Association for being "too timid" and resolved that if elected president, he would submit to the U.N. a treaty making the right to carry a gun "a human right for every person on the planet."

In remarks at an NRA convention in Saint Louis, Gingrich argued that such a treaty would mean "far fewer women would be raped, far fewer children would be killed, far fewer towns would be destroyed."

"We represent a world in which we trust in the basic decency in millions of people and we believe that they can in fact protect themselves and they can be armed with safety because they are in charge of their life," said the former House Speaker.

Gingrich, who said the right to bear arms "comes from God," told a supportive audience that while Americans don't need to be imposing American values across the globe, "we do need to go across the planet and advocate human values."

The Republican presidential candidate, who spoke to the convention after presumptive nominee Mitt Romney, also asked for donations to his increasingly long-shot campaign.

"With your help, if you get a chance to go to Newt.org, I would like to have your support to then lead an effort across the planet to ensure that the right to bear arms becomes permanent and is a human right everywhere which will guarantee its safety in America," he said.

Supposedly when Charles Adams showed up at his agent's office with a cartoon of a man at a maternity ward saying, "Don't bother to wrap it; I'll eat it here," his agent knew he was ready to be hospitalized. Looks like Gingrich has reached that point.

Gee, how did Eleanor Roosevelt and the folks from all over the world who came together to draft an International Declaration of Human Rights after World War II miss guns? Food, clothing, shelter, education, a voice in public affairs: somehow, neither they nor groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights First ever realized that owning a gun is a fundamental human right....

This is insanity. It's like so many other things, right now, that are talked about in a paranoid, irrational, even delusional way.No one disagrees with the fact that The Constiution gives us the right to bear arms, and no one is trying to take that right away from the general public, although the rhetoric of many suggests that.Criminals, and those deemed mentally unstable have no business with guns, for their own safety; and that of the public. No right is absolute, and furthermore; I haven't seen anything in The Bible about having a right to bear arms ,as Gingrich seems to suggest.

You missed the part where Jesus prophecies the development of firearms and guarantees that each human will have the right to own one automatic fire hand gun or long gun or his or her choice?

New proposes arming terrorists and our enemies openly and better than they are now -- I know Republicans are not in favor of war as a party in recent polling -- but arming our enemies seems to assure greater military action will be required.

I agree with our right to bear arms. Wouldn't give it up.
But THAT is scary! It sounds like Newts ready to take over the ENTIRE PLANET! And give them all weapons! Not everyone on this earth is responsible enough to have their finger on a triger!
