In Pa., Romney continues his focus on Obama

(CBS News) BROOMALL, Pa. - Proceeding with his pivot toward the general election, Mitt Romney on Wednesday elaborated on the economic-based themes he will use to attack President Obama and Democrats.

Hours after blasting Mr. Obama in a speech to the American Society of News Editors, he rebuked the president for promoting a "government-centered society" and of "crushing the dreams ... crushing the dreamers" through an overabundance of regulations, taxes and bureaucrats. And he accused the Democratic Party of being hostile to business.

"I listen to some of our out-of-touch liberal friends," Romney told an enthusiastic crowd in this Philadelphia suburb. "And they always say they want a strong economy, but they don't tend to like business very much. What they don't understand is that the economy is the addition of all the businesses in the country together."

As Romney has continued to pull away from his rivals in the Republican field, he has shifted back to depicting Obama as someone who is in over his head. "He just doesn't understand ... he doesn't see how many people are struggling amidst his policies," Romney said.

And he did not bother to ask audience members for their help in Pennsylvania's April 24 primary, but in helping him to "defeat Barack Obama next November."

Romney's attacks are not based on any facts. Republican supporters seem to only state that "Obama is the worst Presiden ever". Have they forgotten about Nixon?
Republican supporters have been lambasted with propaganda from the Koch brother's and their hundreds of so called think tanks. Unfortunately republican voters have bought into the lies and missinformation being force fed to them, they actually believe what they are being told. Only too late will they discover that they have been misled, and deceived by the GOP's news and indocrination organizations, headed by the Kochs. The Koch's only goal is not saving America, it is to force a government to become insolvent leading to a corporate takeover of the government. Just imagine the government run by corporations, where will your voter's rights be then?

How many dreams did Romney crush when Bain Capital eliminated employee pensions while Bain walked away with healthy profits?

Romney has benefited from a weak field of candidates, a divided electorate, low turnout, and an early cash advantage.

Now Republicans are stuck with one of the worst candidates in a century. Mitt is not just a liar and 'flip-flopper' - he is downright nutty.

Why would anyone trust Mitt Romney - he is, by far, the most dishonest politician we have seen in decades.

He is a failed one-term governor who will not even win his own state.

He made money taking over companies, looting pension funds, and sending jobs to China. Now he tries to rewrite his business history.

He was on the board of Damon Corp (as finance chair, no less) when they engaged in medicare fraud. Watch 'Blood Money' by the Gingrich team and you will begin to see how corrupt and dishonest Romney is.

Even Foxnews anchors agree that Romney is 'untrustworthy'.

And, Santorum said it himself - Obama is better...

Sure but at least he smiles alot. And he really ("golly gosh darn") really knows how to couch his attacks and insults.

One other thing is that his closest friends will all benefit from his Presidency (not the country atlarge, nor the debt, however).

Geez. Give the guy credit for something.

Mitt has been shown again and again to be an out-of-touch liar who will sell out any of his 'core convictions' or supporters on a dime.

Romney has zero Federal experience and is failed one term governor who will never be reelected to any office in Massachusetts (or elsewhere). Watch him pretend otherwise.

Mitt knows he is a failed one term governor, who will never be elected to any office in Massachusetts. Ever. He will also lose his home state. The people of Mass know that he is a liar and that Mitt will sell out anyone. Look at Mitt's lies when he from his time in Mass. Stunning. Someone should let Mitt know that there is something called 'videotape'. My favorite Mitt Lie: 'I never said that', when confronted with one of his own quotes.

His claim to fame with the winter Olympics is a massive Federal and state subsidy and handout - then outright lies about it (see the videos on youtube of Romney saying how much gvt money he got and how he used insider connections and lobbiests). This guy is pathetic and shameful...

Mitt recently said the he can't see the difference between the parties. Maybe he's not lying on that one. Maybe he will support Obama or join his cabinet after he loses this election. I am sure he would sell out his supporters and switch parties if he had the chance. Look at his early statements on how he did not like Reagan and the Republican party.

Mitt is also one of the least experienced candidates in decades. Consider, Mitt's foreign experience is limited to knocking on doors in France for three years without making a single convert.

It is well known that Mitt was a draft dodger, and he said his kids 'had better things to do' than serve. Yet this hypocrite engages in clueless, uninformed and irresponsible saber rattling.

Santorum was right - Obama is better !

Go ahead Mitt, focus on President Obama, after all, everything is his fault. You want my vote, have Bain Capitol release all records of the time you were the CEO. All the bailouts came from a republican President and a willing Congress and not one of the people who contributed to this financial meltdown have been arrested nor charged. But it is the shrinking middle class that has to pay for it. It's going to be a tough sell pal.

It's all about deregulation and privatization to this fellow and his economic camp.

One may speculate how deregulation helped to (and continues to) allow the financial sector instability, rooted on vaporous assets, such as CDS. (See David Stockman on need to reinstate Glass-Steagal.)

The privatized Healthcare individual mandate is poised to be overturned. We have been livingfor decades the "free market" effect of industry defining health industry costs. The Govt controlled system via taxation seems the only solution left that meets full Constitutional merit.

....so what exactly is Romney proposing? Less FDA and OSHA regulation?

It depends on your perspective, I guess. I'd think he'd have a tough sell with the campaign against the same old failed policies that created this economic mess. However, if the econ takes another reset between now and the election, I can see how regular folks would be swayed by this campaign of too much gov't. The zinger is when both sides morph a little - Barack sez we need to reduce gov't or Mitt sez we need to protect the econ with some rules. Then who knows what will happen?
