Obama jabs at Gingrich's "phony" gas price promise

(CBS News) President Obama's visit to Mt. Holly, North Carolina on Wednesday to discuss energy policy and the economy was technically not a campaign stop, but he didn't shy away from adding some politically-tinged remarks during his taxpayer-sponsored visit.

"The next time you hear some politician trotting out some three-point plan for $2 gas, you let 'em know, we know better," Mr. Obama said, seemingly referencing Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich's pitch to bring gas prices down to $2.50 if he becomes president. "Tell 'em we're tired of hearing phony, election year promises that never come about."

Mr. Obama toured the Daimler Mount Holly Truck Manufacturing Plant, where he reiterated his support for an "all-of-the-above" energy strategy. He commended the plant for building trucks that use less oil, remarking that while domestic oil production should be increased, "we're not going to be able to just drill our way out of the problem of high gas prices."

Mr. Obama announced an initiative to make it easier for towns and cities to build fueling stations for cars that run on electricity, biofuels or natural gas. The initiative would also give tax breaks to families that buy those cars or companies that buy alternative-fuel trucks.

At left: President Obama enjoyed his introduction from Daimler employee Juan Smith so much that he quipped that Smith was starting to get "The Spirit" during the introduction, adding, "Can I hear an Amen?"

"We're going to give communities across the country more of an incentive to make the shift to more energy-efficient cars," he said.

Mr. Obama has taken heat from Gingrich and other Republicans over rising gas prices. The former House speaker, who is continuing his campaign despite winning just two primary victories so far, says his administration would aim to bring gas prices down to $2.50.

While Mr. Obama's trip today was official business, North Carolina is likely to be a pivotal state in the general election. Mr. Obama won the state narrowly in 2008, and his re-election team was busy registering voters there over the weekend.

The situation in Syria, Israel & Iran, now throw in speculators. The bill that President Obama had introduce into the house that would require speculators to own what they speculate on. It was shot down by the very same people who are now saying, " His policies are to blame for these soaring gas prices. These people are Republicans.

quick question for the tea bagging drones on here:

WHEN GAS PRICES HIT RECORD HIGHS UNDER BUSH, WAS IT HIS FAULT?...WAS IT BECAUSE OF BUSH'S "RADICAL ENERGY POLICIES?"

...FAUX NOOZ IS ON RECORD IN 2008 SAYING THAT THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER GAS PRICES...DID YOU AGREE THEN?

...and don't answer with "Bush isn't President anymore"
====================================================================================================================================

L:ets turn that question around a little bit! In 2008 when gas prices spiked were saying "it's ok President Bush we understand you have no control gas prices we do not blame you for the rise cost of gas".

I would be t you weren't because every liberal loon in this country had their talking points of Bush/Cheney being oil cartel thugs. amazing now that there is demo int eh white house suddanly the presidents energy poilicies have no effect on gas prices!.........

It is funny you have no tapes or recordings of Bush saying he wishes gas prices were higher. Yet there are numerous tapes of Obama saying "I don't mind high gas prices i just wish they would have gone up slower". And Obama's energy secretary is on record saying he wants US gas prices to be as high as europe and the the Obama administrations priority is not to lower gas prices.

Greed and Gas Prices
June 27, 2008

Another terrible day on Wall Street. The Dow closed down 358 points, and most Americans are getting hurt badly. Most Americans are getting hurt, but not the oil company CEOs.

Now the huge oil price rise is causing chaos within the U.S. economy, and everybody's blaming everybody else. If you listen to the oil companies, it's the environmentalists. If you listen to the greens, it's the oil companies. If you listen to OPEC, it's the speculators. And if you listen to the speculators, not their fault. They're just legitimate investors.

But if you break it all down, ladies and gentlemen, if you throw the BS out the window, the fact is that oil companies are making more money than any other concern in the history of civilization.

What a difference a few years makes when it comes to conservitard pundits like those on the fox political network. Back in 2008, even bill o'liely said "no President has the power to increase or to lower gas prices."

FLASHBACK: Fox News On Gas Prices In 2008

Following GOP strategy, Fox News is again blaming the Obama administration for rising gasoline prices -- a claim that has been repeatedly debunked by energy analysts.

In 2008, Fox's coverage occasionally even mirrored the facts: expanding domestic oil drilling will not significantly lower prices, and the only way to reduce our vulnerability to gas price spikes is to use less oil. Perhaps there was more room for reality-based coverage at Fox when there wasn't an incumbent president to defeat?

The only thing "dead certain," is that the fox/rush parrots are singing a completely different tune with a black President in the W.H.

It is funny that in 2008 Obama said the reasons gas prices were going up was because of the incompetence of the Bush administration. But, when you are Obama you can flip flop and get away with it with some folks.
