Gingrich uses Limbaugh controversy to attack Obama

HAMILTON, Ohio - Newt Gingrich on Saturday used the flap over Rush Limbaugh's controversial denunciations of birth-control advocate Sandra Fluke as a way to attack President Obama for acting "opportunistically" when he called the Georgetown University law student to express his disappointment over Limbaugh's comments.

After Limbaugh described Fluke as "slut" and "prostitute" for advocating for subsidizing birth control, Obama contacted Fluke personally. Numerous conservatives and other GOP presidential candidates have rebuked Limbaugh to varying degrees, but the former House speaker said he saw the issue much differently.

"I think the president will opportunistically do anything he can," Gingrich said in response to a reporter's question after a rally Saturday morning in Hamilton. "I think the most important use of language in the last week has been the president's apology to religious fanatics, and I want to stay focused on what the president has said, and I think what he said was inexcusable and is exactly the wrong policy at a time of life and death, and playing political games is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned."

Gingrich said the debate over requiring certain institutions to provide insurance coverage to cover contraception -- something that prompted Fluke's complaint involving Georgetown, a Jesuit-run institution -- should be over governmental interference in religion.

"It's not about contraception. It's about religious liberty," he said. "It's about the attack on the Catholic Church, and the attack on every right-to-life institution and whether or not the government has the power to dictate to religious organizations."

Gingrich, who is devoting most of his time and resources to winning the Georgia primary, made his final and lone trip to Ohio this week, three days before Super Tuesday. Gingrich also is scheduled to participate in a forum hosted by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, make remarks at a National Rifle Association meeting in Findlay and speak at the Ohio 5th Congressional District Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner at Bowling Green State University.

The arrogant, pompous white males of America, represented by Gingrinch and Limpballs are the problem. They really, really hate women and have to control them. This is why conservatives are against women's right to vote, equal wages, right to choose and even birth control.

Our only mistake is letting these people be in any positions of power in our society.

Twice on the Sunday news show, when Newt Gingrich was as asked if it was right for Limbaugh to apologize he instead said it was wrong for the US to be apologizing for the Koran burnings. He did not have the courage to stand up to Limbaugh.

This is a despicable act on Gingrich's part because the military leadership requested this to protect Americans lives. Since then the violence has subsided.

Gingrich's heinous behavior to get a few votes from hate filled far-right conservatives, for an election he can never win. In my opinion, Gingrich's behavior contributed to the violence and additional deaths.

His only reason for his continuing in this election is the hate filled spite he has in his heart towards Romney.

I doubt I will vote for Gingrich when I cast my vote to replace President Obama, but he has a point. This was an attack on the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution, and the idea of "free" (nothing in this world is free, somebody pays for it) contraceptives was bogus at the get go.

When did it become a RIGHT for some people to demand that other Americans or companies PAY FOR THEIR BIRTH CONTROL CONTRACEPTIVES? We are not talking about some life saving drug. This is a drug related to one's personal sexual activity. This entire issue should have never come about.

We have major problems in the United States. We have a staggering $16 trillion national debt, more than 8% unemployment, we have no idea who is coming into this country through our borders, gasoline is about to hit record highs, Iran may soon be a nuclear power (Iran supplies most of the weapons to terrorists around the world),....etc. WHY WAS "FREE" CONTRACEPTIVES THE CURRENT GOAL OF PRESIDENT OBAMA? When it became important for him to divert attention away from his own failures during an election year - that is what this is all about.

This summer gas prices will cripple the nation's small economic recovery and the Supreme Court will rule that the individual mandate in President Obama's health care law (his crown jewel achievement - the one that he and other progressives crammed down the throats of a majority of Americans who still do not want it) to be unconstitutional. President Obama has NO answers for the major problems we face as a nation, so his only hope is to do something that will focus the attention of Americans on something else.

The beginning of the US Constitution states:
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

There is a big difference between "promote" the general welfare and "provide" or "pay" for the general welfare. We are required by law to share the expense of our common defense, but it is not the "right" of US citizens to demand that other Americans or companies "provide" them with free stuff - especially if it relates to personal sexual activity. In an ongoing attempt to "fundamentally transform" the US from a democratic republic into a socialist democracy, progressives are trying to "create" this "right" - but it does not exist. President Obama desires this also - but currently he is trying to divert the attention of the American people away from his own failures and onto something else.

Some folks ask why I continue to post this. As long as CBS continues to run article after article on the subject, I will post this post.

If you do - what the h*ll is your problem in providing women something will prevent unwanted pregnancies that may end with an abortion????

You and your republican cronies can't have it both ways!!!! You can't say your against abortion and be against birth control too!!!!

Oh, by the way - the cost of contraceptives for a woman for her reproductive cycle life would not amount to the cost of a C-Section birth. Then add the cost of the baby becoming the ward of the state or worse being aborted.

I welcome ALL knuckle dragging neanderthals to come into the 21st century and grow up!!!!

Prescription contraceptives aren't always a life saving drug; but, they can be for those women for whom pregnancy is contra-indicated. It's also a fact pregnancy-related deaths occur every year and are increasing in this country. As has been said many times, the drugs also treat other medical conditions unique to women. Having said that, years ago the Supreme Court determined state bans on access to contraception are unconstitutional. Further, no insurance coverage is "free" - every one of us that has coverage pays for it even if it's provided as an employee benefit in lieu of higher wages. The inclusion of contraceptives in prescription drug plans was due to a consensus opinion of the medical community - it wasn't done by presidential proclamation.
Having said all that, people will continue to disagree about whether "the general welfare" is promoted or provided by creating laws intended to make health insurance and care affordable for most. The courts have so far said yes, public health is a legitimate government concern. People will continue to disagree about the religious freedom aspects. The courts have so far not agreed that religious freedom may infringe on other individual or employment rights or that the beliefs of one sect may be favored against those of another when legislating for all. I think it becomes particularly problematic when the businesses involved don't operate as churches, don't require employees to share the beliefs of the religion and don't pay those employees with money donated to the church. Here's what the church is asking: write a law that lets us create compensation plans that impose our beliefs on all employees, regardless of faith, using money we get by billing people of all faiths for services rendered. Given the propensity of the current Supreme Court to favor corporate rights over individual rights, it might fly. If so, I'd want free service from these institutions because religious freedom doesn't include the right to demand "donations to the church" from the public at large.

What is funny is how many religious affliliated institutions (Hopsitals and Universities) have already had insurance policies that covered this very thing since 2001.

I thought this election was going to be about the economy.
