Ann Romney rebuts Bill Clinton's criticisms

Former President Bill Clinton said Thursday Mitt Romney's father is probably "turning over in his grave" when he hears his son criticize the government bailout of the auto industry, but Mitt Romney's wife Ann said Friday that just the opposite is true.

"Mitt's father would be cheering and would be with Mitt 100 percent," Ann Romney said on Fox News. "Because, you know, what Mitt suggested was finally what happened is that they went through a structured bankruptcy -- it's exactly what ended up happening. Mitt just said to do that before they already spent $17 billion."

She continued, "So no. Mitt's father would be cheering -- cheering with Mitt."

Romney's father, George Romney, was the chief executive of American Motors decades ago and later served as governor of Michigan.

General Motors and Chrysler were restructured as part of the $85 billion auto bailout, which started under President George W. Bush's leadership and was extended after Mr. Obama took office. Some analysts have claimed more than 1 million jobs were saved by the bailout.

Mitt Romney, like the other presidential candidates, opposed the bailout, even penning a 2008 op-ed titled "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." Romney has explained that letting the auto companies go bankrupt wouldn't mean liquidating them, "but allowing them to go to the bankruptcy court to reorganize and come out stronger. That's what happened."

Romney says he would have given banks federal loan guarantees so they could loan Detroit the necessary money, instead of having the government offer the loan directly. But the financial crisis created an environment in 2008 in which banks were reticent to give huge loans to the auto companies, and the White House insists the private capital wasn't there to save the companies.

On Thursday, in a speech before the United Auto Workers in Washington, Mr. Clinton said of the bailout, "This was not about the factory workers, every time I hear Mr. Romney talking about this I think his Daddy must be turning over in his grave."

ok... so mitt was opposed to the bailout because obama did exactly what he proposed. so therefor his dad would be proud because the bailout worked and it was mitt's idea although mitt was against it... huh?

Who is Ann Romney and why does she matter?

Mitt was too busy medeling in other people affairs, to understand how the economy works, specially the manufacturing sector.

Why isn't Mitt concerned about the $22 billion they gave Citi corp 2 weeks prior to the Big3 going to Washington the first time (remember flying on their corp jet)? Why was Mitt Talking ignorance about letting them go Bankrupts, when Citi Corp received their SECOND lump of gvnmt money making it $48 billion given to Citi Corp... (which has 7 company jets worldwide)

Bill Clinton is right, Mitt's father would be turning over in his grave @ his sons insolence towards his roots.

Mitt was wrong, (as he only knows about destroying companies for personal prfit, not rebuilding them) & now he has to face his own beliefs head on... but that is political suicide. So his greedy wide has to step into the limelight and lie for her wellbeing & security.

Mitt Romney is a fake. He knows He is not being sincere with himself, you can read it in his eyes.

Mitt Romney will say one thing to one group, then say something else, 180 degrees to another. Translation, he tells people what he thinks they want to hear. Once in office he'll do what he wants, and nobody knows what that is.

So Romney writes an article that called, "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt." Well, kinda tells you what kinda president he'd be if there was another Katrina -- let New Orleans save itself. In the end, that's what the Republican Party is all about -- "You're on your own, and i got mine." Democrats are about working together, united, for a common cause. Which do you want America?

It's very ironic that
1> Mitt Romney who strongly opposed the bailout (done by both Bush & Obama) now claims credit after the bailout has worked well for both the auto companies and 1 million American workers.
2> It's Romney's wife instead of himself came out to set the record 'straight' for his father. Who wants to be the president? Romney or his wife?

I guess it was okay for Romney to get the government to bail out the olympics and some of the companies he drove into bankruptcy but not okay to save millions of jobs and a whole industry at the height of an economic crisis caused by the same policies he now advocates.

The only thing this guy is fit for to be the Hypocrite-In-Chief. He will say anything; any lie; any attack; any change in position inorder to be president. He is a man without morals.

The government had to pick up the tab for the pensions lost in the companies he ruined. But that is the two faced nature of the GOP, claim you hate government while you have your hand out to take all you can, while you can.
