Pelosi: Santorum may need lesson in "birds and bees"

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi had a lesson Wednesday night for the "gentlemen" out there who oppose providing women with access to contraception: "Maybe they need a lesson in birds and bees," she said.

Singling out the staunchly pro-life Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum as an example, Pelosi said she respects others' beliefs - but that there "has to be another way."

"I respect what Mr. Santorum thinks and believes for himself, but I think that it would be wise for the gentlemen to understand, maybe they need a lesson in birds and bees or whatever it is, but there has to be another way," Pelosi said.

Pelosi, in an appearance on Comedy Central's comedy news show "The Colbert Report," touted her support for contraceptive care for women, sparring playfully with comedian Stephen Colbert while emphasizing her belief that the matter is crucial to women's health and family planning.

"It's a women's health issue, which is very important to every family," Pelosi said. "A mother's health and the health of her children, and she and her husband, and their doctor and their god, decide what that is, but it isn't up to five guys sitting around a table in Washington, D.C. to determine what that size and timing will be."

Pelosi was referring to a House Oversight hearing last week on the Obama administration's rule mandating free contraceptive care for employees at religiously-affiliated institutions. The five participants in the first panel were all male. (Two women participated in the second panel.)

"Five guys!" Pelosi cried.

"Aren't guys the ones who should be talking about reproductive rights? Because we're the ones who have the responsibility of telling the lady it's really her responsibility," Colbert quipped.

Laughing, Pelosi said, "you have defined the problem very well."

The former House speaker said she had recognized over the years that a fight over contraception could become an issue in Congress but, she said, people "didn't believe it."

"Rick Santorum and I, we love making babies," the father of three hammed. "What's wrong with that? Why are women so obsessed with controlling their own body?"

(Colbert himself is the youngest of 11 children).

During her appearance on the show, Pelosi struck a deal with Colbert on the DISCLOSE Act, which aims to increase transparency in campaign fundraising: Colbert offered to "throw [his] weight behind" the bill if she promised to try to get members of Congress to appear on his show.

"It's a deal," she said.

If you brought Pro-Choice or Pro-Life into football, then one could say that an athlete opting not to wear a athletic supporter was practicing "Pro-Choice" and the one does wear one practices "Pro-Life"...but haven't seen the House or Senate make any law about a man's body.

There is something about the foolishness of MEN making laws about a woman's body which never really gets addressed on this matter....but some fail to remember, many religions still do not acknowledge that woman have rights anyway.

Is all this noise about contraception for Non-Catholic employees of Catholic institutions necessary? How many people does this affect? And who is forcing the Non-Catholic employees to work at Catholic institutions?

I have no problem with contraception, my wife uses it and I don't see anything wrong with it. This whole debate seems way overblown.

Its way over blown because liberals think the Catholics are somehow infringing on women's rights if they don't give women something for free.

The think it is alright to trample religious freedoms as long as someone gets something for free.

This debate has nothing to with contraceptive rights. Forcing the Catholics to pay for contraceptives would be no different then forcing a Muslim institute to purchase and serve pork.

But of course no liberal would allow muslims to force to purchase and serve pork because we all know liberals favor Muslims over any other religion.

Now, we are paying almost $400 Billion a year in interest, on deficits run up by anti American GOP economic terrorists, and that will be so every year going forward, no matter who is President, because these pimps for the 1% want to bring down our Constitutionally elected President.
==================================================================

I see in you long rant about deficits you fail to mention the 4.5 trillion Obama has ran up in just over 3 years. But of course you being an Obamabot you will have some convoluted excuse how Obama's deficits are bush's fault. While Ignoring the fact the bush tax cuts are now the Obama tax cuts and ignoring the fact Obama wasted a trillion dollars on the porkulous bill that failed by Obama's own standards since unemployment went way above the promised 8%

That aside you never answered the question with you rant about deficits what you answer if you think trickle down isn't the answer. Do you believe the government should confiscate all wealth and distribute it as the government see's fit?

By the way a well known fact is the government could tax the incomes of the top 1% at 90% and it still would not pay the 1.2 trillion deficit. But don't let facts get in the way of your idiotic rant and misinformation about deficits.

So not one of you, Enzas of NoProgress ever address the issue one issue form the post above. Instead you felt the need to insult and write emotive opinions. Typical. So typical.

You can even defend yourselves against my argument that 58% of women who take contraceptions NEED IT FOR OTHER MEDICAL NEEDS even for saving their lives. Couldn't even address that could you? No, all you can see through your haze is the need to control women's health under the disguise of religious freedom. To you is is more important to limit women's choices than prevent serious medical conditions that are only helped by contraceptions. You also wrote that I am a wannabe OB/GYN. Tell what the hell is wrong with learning????? What is wrong if understanding the need for certain medications? What is wrong with that? Then as American myself you're going to tell me where I am allowed to live? What the hell are you people but bully fascists? We going to have tests about who is more religious? Whose God is better and who is more Patriotic? Sick.

So I'll make the earlier post reasier for you go through:

To all GOP males who don't understand contraception. There are more reasons why women NEED contraceptions. In some cases it is NECESSARY TO SAVE A WOMAN'S LIFE or protect her from infertility.

And NO IT IS NOT CHEAP.

Examples why 58% of women take contraceptions:

Pill perk #1: Lower cancer risk
I guess the GOP does not want to save women's lives especially if it requires them to take contraceptions.

Pill perk #2: Clearer skin
Why not?

Pill perk #3: Lighter, less painful periods
Have you guys have had painful heavy periods? No? Then shut the f*k up.

Pill perk #5: Endometriosis relief
Ironically the religious right want babies and more babies but they can't understand that sometimes a woman needs contraception IN ORDER TO HAVE BABIES. Go figure

I didn't proofread...sorry. There are typos.

For those who need more info the five reasons are explained further in previous post. Nothing wrong with reading and learning despite what Santorum says about education.

Since you know, it's us ******, ****** women who are 100% responsible for making babies, and we should just "learn to keep our legs closed" if we don't want to pay for it...I propose we all do just that!! Let's see how long the men folks can go without. ;)

Smokey75, IF you were educated enough to read and UNDERSTAND what you have read, all EVERYONE is saying is the Government and the Religious Reich should stay OUT of people's bedroom AND their private LIVES. Now why don't you explain to EVERYONE why we should buy into Trickle Down Economics again so YOU clowns can be the Moral Policemen?? LMAO
====================================================================================================================================

It gets so old hearing a bigoted racist like you complain about trickle down!

WHAT IS YOUIR ALTERNATIVE?

You have no clue how economics work your so called trickledown theory is how things work. There will always be people at the top who have to hire people from the bottom to create their products or perform their services.

The only other alternative is for the government to confiscate all the wealth in the country and distribute it how it sees fit. Is that what you want? Seriously some people are too stupid to even be a loud to post on this forum.

Quit being an idiot who complains about a problem but never offers his solution. Tell us what the alternative to what you call trickle down. I'll bet you can't do.

Even your savior Obama understands our economy works on "trickle Down" why do you think he is proposing lowering the corporate taxes!
