Obama campaign launches "truth team"

Obama, 2012, truth team www.barackobama.com

President Obama's re-election team on Monday rolled out a campaign to recruit two million supporters to help debunk attacks on the president's record and hit back at his Republican rivals.

Called the "Truth Team," the new effort will engage Obama supporters online and in person, encouraging them to communicate with undecided voters about the president's record.

"People don't just want to hear from campaign statements or ads -- they want to hear from the family and friends they trust," Stephanie Cutter, Mr. Obama's deputy campaign manager, wrote in an email to supporters.

Obama for America, the president's re-election team, will announce "truth teams" in a handful of swing states today. National groups like the National Education Association and the Service Employees International Union have also signed on as partners in the effort.

The "Truth Team" website highlights the effort's three goals, each of which have their own website: AttackWatch.com will defend the president against false attacks, KeepingGOPHonest.com will fact check Republicans' claims about their own records, and KeepingHisWord.com will tout the president's record.

In 2008, more than a million people participated in Mr. Obama's similar "Fight the Smears" initiative. This year, the campaign hopes to double that number before the Democratic National Convention in the fall.

The "truth team" effort acknowledges the bitter contest expected between Mr. Obama and his 2012 opponent. Social media can be a powerful tool to help combat attacks, but it also carries some risks -- when the campaign launched AttackWatch.com last fall, conservatives largely lampooned it.

Romney paid _14%_ of his income in taxes. Your daughter paid more as a percentage of her income.

Correct but this will be lost on dz because she learned voodoo math from the same school as Obama...and spouts it just as well.

At no time dz, now or ever, will everyone be equal - economically, financially or any other way. The only equality we have is that a some point we'll be gone. If someone makes more than you, and as a result gains more opportunities than you, that is just too bad. It is the way of the world. Your earlier post makes you sound like a child or someone who learned about the world in a book.

social equality? you mean like a corporate wealthy ceo that has a million dollars to donate to a politition and has access and leverage to get laws passed that would benefit him over me. and me thinking that he should not have that advantage over me, makes me a socialist, communist, marxist? fair taxation? you mean like corporations that pay no federal taxes, like robme that paid 30% of his 44 million dollar income in taxes compared to my daughter making 10 an hour paying 20% of her income in taxes, fair? reality not talking points. so yea, keep calling hard working americans, socialist communists and marxists because they are asking for a fair shake.talking points is what you believe, if you think the system is not rigged for the few that has the influence.

Name 5 corporations that paid $0 taxes
Your daughter does not pay a 20% effective income tax rate, unless she isn't smart enough to take deductions. She actually pays more like 10-14%. The rich pay more like and effective tax rate of 24%.

Your daughter pays 20% probably including Federal State and County, along with some sales tax. The rich pay more like 30-35% including Federal State and county ON INCOME. Investments, which the economy needs in order for capital injection allowing business to expand and CREATE JOBS is taxed at 15% because it carries risk.

You libs just don't know how to add and subtract. You don't know how to make an even comparison. You don't even know how to research your own facts - you just regurgitate sound bytes fed to you by other who have their own agenda. Every fact I listed here is readily available at the IRS to anyone with a brain and 24 seconds to kill. There is absolutely NO place in this world where you will find an economy, based on a monetary system, where those who have can't buy some influence. Crying about it is pointless. If you don't like the system, go buy a plot of land, start growing your own food and subsist there, while the rest of us who understand how the world work get on with the business of living. You all sound like a bunch of crybabies. And you aren't going to change the way the world works. Ever. Not as long a a dollar can go from one hand to another and someone can buy something for a dollar and sell it for two. Now that's a fact for you. Live with it.

These are for tax year 2010:

1) Exxon Mobil made $19 billion in profits in 2009. Exxon not only paid no federal income taxes, it actually received a $156 million rebate from the IRS, according to its SEC filings.

2) Bank of America received a $1.9 billion tax refund from the IRS last year, although it made $4.4 billion in profits and received a bailout from the Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department of nearly $1 trillion.

3) Over the past five years, while General Electric made $26 billion in profits in the United States, it received a $4.1 billion refund from the IRS.

4) Chevron received a $19 million refund from the IRS last year after it made $10 billion in profits in 2009.

5) Boeing, which received a $30 billion contract from the Pentagon to build 179 airborne tankers, got a $124 million refund from the IRS last year.

6) Valero Energy, the 25th largest company in America with $68 billion in sales last year received a $157 million tax refund check from the IRS and, over the past three years, it received a $134 million tax break from the oil and gas manufacturing tax deduction.

7) Goldman Sachs in 2008 only paid 1.1 percent of its income in taxes even though it earned a profit of $2.3 billion and received an almost $800 billion from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury Department.

8) Citigroup last year made more than $4 billion in profits but paid no federal income taxes. It received a $2.5 trillion bailout from the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury.

9) ConocoPhillips, the fifth largest oil company in the United States, made $16 billion in profits from 2007 through 2009, but received $451 million in tax breaks through the oil and gas manufacturing deduction.

10) Over the past five years, Carnival Cruise Lines made more than $11 billion in profits, but its federal income tax rate during those years was just 1.1 percent.

And the other poster was incorrect Romney's efective tax rate last year was 13.9% not 30%.

Unless you actually see a person's tax return, I wouldn't be mouthing off about what a person paid.

Truth team?

What are they going to do with the fact that President Obama promised 8 times to air health care discussion on CSPAN - and then never made good on it?

What are they going to do with the fact that February 2012 President Obama promised to cut deficit spending in half by the end of his first term, but instead ramped up deficit spending to historic levels?

What are they going to do with President Obama's promise of bipartisanship - but when McCain attempted to work with him on health care, President Obama basically stated "I won, and you lost".

I could go on for a while on President Obama "truthfulness".

i thought it was socialist communist marxist? they'll give you another rushed limbaughtomny and make you sit and listen to faux noice, the next time you get your talking points wrong.
______________________________________________________________

Many points that you libs scream for right now - social equality, "fair" taxation, etc. all have their roots in Socialism/Marxism/Communism of one form or another. If you don't know that, then it is you who have been fed someone's talking points.
