House bans welfare recipients' money from strip clubs, liquor stores

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill that prohibits welfare recipients from using their government subsidy in strip clubs, liquor stores and casinos.

The measure easily received the necessary support of two-thirds of House members, with 395 voting in favor and only 27 opposing.

House Republicans introduced and promoted the proposal as a way to eliminate government wasteful spending. It has passed the House before, and they re-introduced it again hoping it will become part of a bill to extend the payroll tax credit, which both the House and Senate is expected to debate this month.

The Senate has not agreed to take up the measure.

I believe any misspend social service funds casts doubt on the whole system. Some states have even done away with their fraud division for welfare. The State I live even are even trying to get the Amish to sign up for social services, which of course is against their religious convictions. You see what is happening. Free money without any strings or monitoring causes corruption. The more federal money the states can give away or even show need, the more they get. A better spending would be a Roosevelt type WPA, where everyone capable of working would work.

If these jokers were serious about eliminating wasteful government spending, they would start with military contractors and their own pay and benefits. This is a joke to pit citizens against each other.

Um, yeah jackass, it IS a negative. This anti-republican feels the house could be concentrating on, oh, maybe something to help the economy or jobs situation. Not wasting the taxpayers money trying to legislate some very low-rate, low-incident problem. I'm willing to bet they wasted more money trying to legislate this than the actual problem costs. Grow up.

OK moron - in 2010, $1.8 BILLION was withdrawn from welfare cards at casino ATM in California alone. Your president's Healthcare bill did more to negatively impact jobs then any time they could have wasted on this bill. Do the math idiot

yeah nitwit, it's a real big conspiracy. The problem with you nuts is your misplaced hatred is so extreme, you can't even look stuff up for yourself. Fortunately you are marginal and not important to the rest of us.

The House has been working on the economy and jobs, they have sent nearly 30 Bills to the Senate, including a budget and the Senate under Harry Reid-D NV has done nothing to bring them to a vote, or even debate in the Senate. Instead of taxpayer dollars being wasted on strip clubs and gambling, instead of food and shelter, get rid of it and go back to commodities, at least then people ate.

Wasn't there already something like this, to be blunt? Seems that they are trying to 'solve' a problem that was already solved a long time ago.

Actor or Lerian - Cite the law that already exists and specifically covers this issue then since billions of dollars are currently "illegally" being withdrawn at ATMs in casinos in California.

Should government have the power to decide how to spend tax credits? EIC? Disability? Welfare? Farm subsidies? Tax Refunds?

Remeber Terry Shivo? Should government get involved with end of life decisions?

Seems to me, GOP talks limited government except when they don't want it limited. Am I wrong about that?

Not wrong at all, you're quite right. The Republicans pass out earmarks (our tax dollars) to their friends who openly use funds for all manner of "expenses" - golf outings, conventions, trips, and I'm sure strip clubs. The party of hypocrites in virtually every aspect of life.
