Chris Christie to Obama: What are we paying you for?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Monday launched a broadside at President Obama, rhetorically asking "what the hell are we paying you for?" after Democrats and Republicans were unable to come to a deal on long-term deficit reduction by the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Republican governor, who decided against a White House bid of his own last month, urged Mr. Obama to return to the Senate, where he can be one of a hundred legislators.

"If he wanted to run for Senate again and just be 1 of a 100, I'm sure he could have gotten reelected over and over again in Illinois," Christie said at a press conference in Camden, New Jersey.

Christie said Mr. Obama should adopt the style of governing he uses in New Jersey, where he summoned lawmakers from both parties to work out their differences over such contentious issues as changing the pensions and benefits for state workers.

"He's the one in Washington and he's got to get something done here. And it's not good enough just to say, 'Well, I'll get it done after the election.'" Christie said, adding that he was "angry" Mr. Obama decided to stay out of negotiations because the so-called "supercommittee" tasked with striking a deal on deficit reduction was doomed to failure. With the panel's failure to come to a deal this month, automatic spending cuts agreed to over the summer totaling $1.2 trillion are set to begin in 2013. That effectively puts any negotiations for changing their structure until after the November 2012 elections.

"Well then what the hell are we paying you for?" Christie said, adding " 'It's doomed for failure so I'm not getting involved?' Well, what have you been doing exactly?"

Christie said the Occupy Wall Street movement and the Tea Party movement both stem from "an anger that government can't get things done," though the similiarities end there.

"They look at Washington, D.C. and they look at a president who is a bystander in the Oval Office," Christie said.

That's a good question, Why do we pay Obama?
So he can go on his never ending campaigning since January of 2009 and take undeserved vacations for doing nothing except wasting money and causing desent in the Congress and amongst American's classes. Wasn't he suppose to be the Great Uniter?

He takes the family globe trotting under the guise of the peoples business and good. Sitting on his hands and not leading while the country's economy chugs along and unemployment remains at 9.1 or 2 %. Blaming Bush, the Congress, Americans for being lazy and everyone except himself for his incompetence and failures as president.
Looks like we are not getting our money's worth from this empty suit and snakeoil salesman.
It's bad enough everyone has to carry Barry, but does he have to drag his feet while we are doing it?

Well, you've certainly revealed yourself for the Fox Parrot you are. Is it easier to have the Fox Pundits do your thinking for you? You can just parrot everything they say without verifying or thinking on your own. "Blaming... American for being lazy." What an out of context quote. You probably actually believe Fox Limbaugh "News" when they clearly misguided his intent with that statement. Why don't you listen to the speech for yourself and see if you understand what the President was describing. If you still think he was "blaming" Americans, then you are hopeless.

Don't you people realize the President is just a puppet and the country is run by the Top 1%? If you know this, everything makes more sense. The same question can be asked of that Christie pig who hates almost everyone he governs. At least you can't say that about Obama.

Yea, Obama hates EVERYONE. That's why he donated almost all of his earnings from his book sales to various charities. Please describe one "thing" Obama has done that exemplifies hating everyone.

@Bombastic:
Why do you type President in quotes? Do you think he is not really your president? Why such disrespect for the current Commander in Chief?

Wow some hate here, well our leader is our leader whether it's immigration, war, whatever and this includes bringing congress together to get whats right for us done period. To duck out with it's not his job is purely being brain washed, I mean come on. I just don't get why Obama's supporters are so nervous, is it because the tea party now has roots, is it that Obama and the demarcates are further behind wall street then ever before, is it because finally the reality has appeared that we as a nation need to make a few hard decisions about the continued growth of our welfare state, it is because Europe is in flames and the liberals can't watch. Both of the extremes are wrong for America and what Christie talks about is not politically correct but he does take the reins. I think he'd make a great president and I'm sure his driving force would be for the people unlike most of them in DC now.

We have a president who is a nice guy, someone you would like to have a beer with, but someone who is not a leader and is over his head with this job. How sad, as most folks had such high expectations when Obama took office 3 years ago.

Ah, so we elect him to make drastic changes, but give him a Senate that faces a record-shattering number of Republican filibusters, and then hand him a Republican led Congress for that latter part of his first term. How could we expect him to get anything done? It is akin to putting him in a straight jacket and asking him to win an arm wrestling match.

Well he did get us out of the recession. That being said, he was naive in thinking the GOP would actually work with him to solve the country's problems.

The President don't write the rules, congress does. Right now, we have an irresponsibly and do notting republican congress who have decided that they are not going to do anything until they destroy the president. If what the republicans are doing to this president to undermine his office is done by an external force, we would call it an attack on American sourverenty. Why any one in their right mind, would condone these irresponsible congress speaks volume about that individual.
This congress is a shame to demoncracy everywhere on earth. They are a postal child for what demoncracy should not look like.
One can argue that these republicans have done more damage to this country by their inaction, even greater than what wall street have done. This congress is guilty of failure to represent the people. How can they allow themselves to be held hostage by a powerful fure, against the interest of the majority(voiceless). This is a trivesty on the part of the do notting and irresponsible congress.

Congress, especially House Republicans, get paid $170K for saying no to everything for 102 days out of the year. That's $1,666.67 per congressman per workday. There are 435 congressmen, not getting anything done for a total of $74,000,000/year. Let's see, President Obama makes $400,000/year salary. The presidential salary was $200,000 dollars in 1969 and was increased in 2001. If the 1969 salary is adjusted for inflation it is actually the equivalent of $1,175,000 today. This means that the president makes about 3 times less in 2009 than he made 40 years ago. President Obama is paid to lead the military and have the ultimate say whether or not a bill presented is passed or vetoed. Congress makes $74,000,000 for arguing minutia to the point of absurdity, preventing them from presenting any bills to the Senate much less President Obama for approval. Throw in the Senate's $17,000,000 in salaries and the Legislators are hosing us for $91M/year to do NOTHING! Christie, the stalemate started when a Democratic Senator passed away, and Democrats lost veto-proof majority in the Senate. When Republicans took a majority seats in the House, the stalemate turned into a deadlock. If you want to place blame where it is due, call out your local House Representative and your state's Senators. Or, just stick a pie in the agape drool hole in the front of your face and stop with your opinion where it does not concern you. People will only presume you're an idiot, instead of having their presumption proven.
