Dems attack Romney in new Hollywood style ad, Gingrich could benefit

UPDATED 8:58 a.m. ET

Newt Gingrich got a big boost Sunday in his bid to oust Mitt Romney as the inevitable Republican nominee for president when the conservative New Hampshire Union Leader endorsed the former House speaker in his bid for the White House.

And Monday, he may have gotten some more help from an unlikely source: the Democratic National Committee. The DNC unveiled a scathing attack ad on Romney's record, highlighting changes he has made to his policy positions.

Titled "Mitt v. Mitt," the ad portrays the former Massachusetts governor as "the story of two men trapped in one body" in a movie-style trailer, complete with booming voice narration used for Hollywood blockbusters.

The timing of the ad's release, with just a little more than a month to go before Republican voters begin to choose their nominee, clearly shows that Democrats are most worried about Romney as a challenger to President Obama.

Romney has been relentless in his criticism of the president, often ignoring his Republican rivals and keeping his eye on the White House. He has blasted Mr. Obama's record on the economy, arguing that he is a successful businessman with a track record at creating jobs.

The ad is an effort by Democrats to counter that narrative and stir up doubt about Romney among conservative Republicans, many of whom are uneasy with his contradictory positions on key issues, including health care, immigration and abortion.

"Two Mitts willing to say anything," the narrator intones as the screen shows an old clip of Romney saying he would "preserve and protect a woman's right to choose," followed by a more recent clip of Romney saying he wants to see the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion, Roe v. Wade, "overturned."

The 30-second ad is airing in a handful of states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, and directs viewers to a longer, four-minute version at www.mittvmitt.com.

The Romney campaign noted that DNC ad is airing in states the Obama campaign is worried about losing.

"The last thing the White House wants is to have to run against Mitt Romney and be held accountable for the many failures of this administration. So, instead of focusing on the economy and creating jobs, President Obama and Democrats are focused on tearing down Mitt Romney," said Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul.

Willard "The Waffler" Romney is a notorious flip-flopper. He acts like he is running for the president of the Waffle House, not the Whitehouse. He did it just a few weeks ago when Ohio voted down big the law that would have curtailed union power. First Willard the Waffler was for it, then when it looked doomed for defeat he backed away from supporting it. Once his GOP rivals heard this they pounced on him and he WAFFLED AGAIN, saying he supported it. Romney is a political chameleon with no spine who will say and do whatever is politically convenient. DO NOT TRUST WILLARD THE WAFFLER!!!!

If I am to understand this correctly, apparently having a core set of values means to change your mind (or flip flop) in unison with other people. "It is better to be right some of the time than all of the time." - Just ask Lincoln, Durbin, Leahy, Schumer, and Oh yea...Bill Clinton.

When looking at the real economic numbers and the cost effect results of our foreign policy closely, one can only conclude that we have become a welfare/warfare state that has already entered into a Depression, while heading towards ever more endless wars, complete bankruptcy, and the collapse of an America which we have known for more than two centuries.

There are far more of us than those who represent the special interest group financed establishment which continues to benefit from all of the above at the expense of average Americans. Most of us can at least sense that something is drastically wrong yet we remain on our path to self-destruction if we allow status quo politicians with status quo policies to continue on.

Whether you are a member of the Tea Party, OWS, any other group, or simply a disenfranchised individual who sees little hope, please look up, learn about, and help Ron Paul become president anyway you can. The only way we lose is if we continue to remain divided.

Had we voted Ron Paul into office in 2008 we would at this time be well on our way to recovering the American dream. Fortunately it looks like we have one more chance to get it right. It's probably our last chance, however, because within four years of continued status quo leadership and policies we will find ourselves in the midst of a full scale Depression and all the turmoil that it brings.

Even if you disagree with Ron Paul on a position or two please don't let that stop you from supporting him. Even in such a situation consider if Ron Paul won't get you 80% of what you want while getting the country back on track to recovery. At such time it will be easier to argue about the 20% that is missing than under present status quo leadership. If we were to all wait for a candidate that gives us 100% of what we want then we will remain divided and there will be no hope.

During this critical time in history let's come together as a country to show that we as a people can overcome the special interest group financed status quo candidates to support and vote Ron Paul into office in 2012 so that we and our children have a better future. Please pass this on to everyone you know.

It just is so funny that the media makes it like Obama has never changed position. The flips on Gitmo, he was against the Bush tax cuts before he extended them and then said they were good for our economy last year, and he sold unions down the river by approving a trade agreement that we know based on previous agreemnents will send more union jobs overseas. Romney is the one person who has enough business sense to save our country from the spend money we do not have as Obama continues to do----------thats 5 trillion dollars worth of new debt on Obama's watch and counting.

why did Obama flip on the Bush tax cuts - he was getting nowhere with a repub congress. So he compromised.

Tell me when we've seen anything compromised by repubs since Obama took office.

Unfortunately the wind nuts in the Republican Party are mostly old, very conservative and refuse to change no matter what.

Spending good money to try to change the opinion of Republicans is like talking to your giant tortoise.

There are more Independents than Dems or Reps and these people can be guided by useful information and not lies generated by political think tanks like the American Heritage Institute which manufactures Republican Presidential candidates.

Do you know that we have had about 20 months straight of private sector job creation. When Obama came in, we were loosing 750, 000 jobs a week, now we are creating jobs. Why will any one want to go back to loosing 750,000 jobs. All we need to do is to vote o
ut the do-notting congress whose idea of job creation is their fixation on women's uterus.

The voting electric is so much more informed than ever before and Obama and Crew will not be able to fool the people like he did before. Everyone is on to and are aware of his corrupt ways of claiming his rivals said what Obama wants or needs them to say by using only part of a sentence and completely ripping it out of the original context. Obama was caught so many times doing this that now it is not going to work no matter if Hollywood puts their glitts to it. People now know how to Google and Fact Check to find out the lies Obama is not above telling. Here is just one fine example of this kind of extreme he will go to.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2008/09/from-the-fact-1-3/

This addresses the extreme lies he will go to to get elected but his liess extend way beyond in how he has governed this country. He has divided this nation. He is close to bankrupting it and in my opinion he is the "useful idiot" for the likes of George Soros who wants a One World Order.

"The voting electric"?

Not very informed I would say, when you think that the voting public is the "electric" instead of the "electorate".

Maybe you should go look it up at the "libary"! Oh, right, you are a republican, so you are opposed to socialist institutions like libraries.

Obama has been a transformative, ambitious, effective, and honest President. he has accomplished nearly everything he has set out to accomplish, even with the Republicans blocking everything he tries to do, no matter how far he compromises with them.

If you dont know this, then shut up. You are an ignorant fool and you dont deserve a vote until you do some research and get some facts.

ACA: best piece of legislation passed in America for 40 years. Puts us on the path to eliminate the insurance industry. Allows people to use collective bargaining to get better deals from pharmaceutical companies. Forces the freeloaders, who were not buying insurance, who have been relying on tax-dollars to cover them at the emergency room, to pay their share. Lowers total health care cost for all.

Out of Iraq. Should never have been there and now we are gone and that is good. It makes me so angry: several thousand dead soldiers for NOTHING - thanks for that GOP.

Got rid of DADT, as promised.

Could not shut GITMO, true. Cant get cooperation from the states or the House to put the inmates on trial in civilian courts. Not much Obama can do there.

What lies? WHAT LIES? YOU CANT JUST SAY CRAP LIKE THAT WITHOUT SAYING WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

WHY DONT REPUBLICANS GET IT? WHY DONT YOU IDIOTS KNOW BETTER THAN TO JUST SAY RANDOM JUNK WITHOUT BACKING IT UP WITH FACTS?

WHY ARE YOU SO STUPID?

OH, RIGHT...REAGAN CUT FUNDING TO PUBLIC EDUCATION!!!!
