Meghan McCain Hits Back at Twitter Photo Critics

(twitpic.com)
Yesterday, the Internet was in a tizzy over a revealing picture that Meghan McCain, daughter of senator and former Republican presidential candidate John McCain, posted of herself on Twitter.

A quick recap: On Wednesday night, McCain posted the photo saying she was having a "'spontaneous' night in" with "my Andy Warhol biography and takeout."

The photo quickly spread around the Web, with supporters and detractors weighing in on the snapshot. It generated so much buzz, in fact, that it reached the top of Google Trends for a time both yesterday and today (with "balloon boy" taking up the time in between).

Late Thursday night, McCain herself responded to the interest and the uproar with a post on the Daily Beast, where she is a regular columnist, entitled: "Don't Call Me a Slut."

In the column, McCain said she spent the whole day thinking about the "immediate and nasty overreaction" that erupted over the photo.
"Could it be it's because I have breasts? Because for those of you who didn't know, I have two. They're larger than some women's and not as big as others. I don't usually show off my cleavage—as I did in the photos I posted—which I will admit is not the smartest thing I have ever done. But it's just not worth the drama it caused.

To be honest, I don't feel that I have anything to feel ashamed of. I've always embraced my curves and will continue to do so. I'd rather be the size I am than a skinny model fired for being too fat. And once again, a day after writing about my weight, it's the media that have a problem with my body."
McCain compared the comments about her with those made when topless pictures came out of two male representatives in Congress, saying the "double standard is infuriating."

And she talked about lessons she learned from the uproar, noting for all her fans that she won't be giving up her Twitter account, as she threatened to do when the controversy broke.

"At the end of the day, I am a work in progress," she said. "I am not perfect and have never given anyone the assumption that I am. I turn 25 next week and I am still adjusting to the glare of the spotlight and making mistakes."

McCain concludes her column with a nice pun and cliche: "I just wanted to get that off my chest."

I just wish she would shut up and disappear. We didn't care to listen to her during the campaign and now she is beyond boring. It would be wonderful if she could actually contribute something to the country. So far all she has done is try to ingratiate herself with the liberal crowd. Why not put those breasts where they belong and go to school or get a job or something and try to make this country a better place. Sorta like what your father did and your grandfather did. So far you have used your mouth to show how absolutely ignorant you are and the only reason you gotten buy with it was because you were making your dad (a Republican) look ignorant. And now you are attacking Republican ideas and so you have alittle life left in the horse but not much. Just please get a life before people start referring to you in very very uncomplimentary terms. And trust me they will!

Dude she is rich in fact more rich than her dad and most likely better educated than her dad. It's her mother's money not his.

Plus as my wife says it is a free country and if she wants to act like a Republican she can. You know feed off your own to get your way.

You know if voting for McCain would have had her more in the news and on TV maybe I would have voted McCain.

Maybe if Palin and Megan did some mud wrestling???

Awww shoot ... No I still dont think I would have voted for them.

This just illustrates my feelings that social networking causes more problems for their users than they're worth.
