New Video of Students Praising Obama Generates Anger

Conservatives were up in arms last week over a video showing New Jersey elementary school students singing songs praising President Obama -- evidence, critics suggested, that children were being indoctrinated in school.
The video was used as the basis for a Republican fundraising appeal, with Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele calling it "the type of propaganda you would see in Stalin's Russia or Kim Jong Il's North Korea."

Now a new video has surfaced showing children praising the president, and it is once again generating anger. The clip shows part of a PTA program at Sand Hill-Venable Elementary School in Ashville, North Carolina from February in which students were "paying tribute to various American heroes," the Mountain Express reports. You can watch the video, which was (obviously) put together by a critic of the program, above.

The video quickly made the rounds on conservative blogs and Fox News, where one anchor compared it to a campaign commercial.

As a result, the school district has reportedly been "inundated" with calls over the video, according to the Citizen-Times, with some callers issuing death threats and suggesting the school is brainwashing students.

The clip reportedly came from a 30-minute presentation praising George Washington, Amelia Earhart, Martin Luther King Jr. and others. A spokeswoman for the schools denied that it reflected an effort to indoctrinate students.

"The final skit … recognized the most recent famous American, the first African-American to be elected president of the United States," spokeswoman Jan Blunt said in a statement, the Citizen-Times reports. "This was not indoctrination. This was a lesson in American history and citizenship taken directly from the section of the N.C. Standard Course of Study entitled 'Citizenship: People Making a Difference.'"

On Friday, the Huffington Post Web site pointed to a 2006 video in which students "serenaded First Lady Laura Bush with a song praising the President, Congress, and Federal Emergency Management Agency for their response to -- of all things -- Hurricane Katrina."

"Congress, Bush and FEMA People across our land together have come to rebuild us and we join them hand-in-hand," the students sang.

Nice video. Not sure what the hub-bub is about. Don't really care either. And I'm not in fear nor will I be in fear (so take that argument elsewhere wing-nut GOPer). And it's not like you can blame Obama for it. Face it bitter bunch -- people are tired of 8 years of Bush 2 idiotic, fear-mongering leadership. Don't be surprised by future programming.

We appreciate most of the comments posted above. Are the complainers/whiners the same folk who played the violin à la Nero while our country's wealth was being dissipated in our reckless attempts at nation building and cozying up to criminal abuses of capitalism, i.e. Wall Street, corporative America. Let's not forget that children not much older than these students are being maimed and killed -- we have been Bushed!

maam think again. you were here weren't you. Barney frank's was in power. He said that fannie mae and freddie mac were good to go shortly before they collapsed. he was the head of the banking committee. He encouraged the sub prime loans to people who couldn't pay them back

It seems that teachers in their attempt to show patriotism and respect for the presidency have instead made shows that support this president and his views. This is indoctrination. I am quite aware that at least the evidence submitted in this one is not nearly as damning as the first one which came across as a paean to Obama the anointed one because of his greatness.

If such video was presented about say the George Bush the younger the howls from the same people who think its a nothing would be heard around the world and all sorts of columns would be written attacking the teachers for making them.

Say the peace had stuck and a program was put on praising George bush for his victory, there would be heck to pay.

Called it a double standard. Call it a liberal bias. However you look at it liberals see the mote in a conservative's eye but can't see the log in their own.

You need to look up the song the kids sang after Katrina... praising "George Bush and FEMA".
The only outrage regarding this song was from people in New`Orleans who knew better.

So, take your "you'd howl louder than me" baloney and put it away.

Plus -- that twig and log thing goes both ways.... especially when you just ASSUME people would think a certain way.

Personally, it wouldn't have mattered to me if kids sang songs about GW Bush at school recitals any more than about BH Obama. I have enough sense to know it is the American President is who is being honored ... not the man "and his views".

Indoctrination? Sheesh -- YOU sure got some alan...

Have any of these "outraged" folks ever heard of the word "overkill".

They are signing the cease and desist order on their own idiocy.

Finding ONE thing to be outraged about -- the rational thinkers in the American public say ..."hmmm, maybe, maybe not", and so on, up to "this is getting old... boring... ridiculous".

Finally they are just plain ignored -- and even if they HAD a rational concern, who would care? Crying wolf has never been a successful plan.

And that folks -- is great for America. Take heart.

And like Jimmy Carter, Obama will be a one term, insignificant president. Obama is doing to the dems what bush did to the republicans.

why some people react and act so stupid. Did these kids bow. just admiring or praising the works of our leaders so what is wrong. Some people make the republican looks so stupid and some people show really they are stupid

Enough of Obama praise. It should not be taught to innocent children who have no idea what this is all about.

Where were you when it was Bush praise?

Supporting your President, knowing what he has done, whether you agree or not - that's a very good thing.

It's about patriotism not politics you fool.

Last time I looked supporting the President was called patriotism. But if your political ideology is so bankrupt that even this is a threat you have real problems. Also the fact that this is North Carolina might add to what President Carter was saying a couple of weeks ago.
