Rep. Trent Franks: Obama is "Enemy of Humanity"

Over the weekend, Republican Congressman Trent Franks said at the "How to Take Back America" conference that President Obama is an "enemy of humanity."

Today, a spokesman for Franks said the Arizona representative should have made clear that he was discussing the president's position on abortion.

Here's what Frank said in full on Saturday, to applause from the conservative conference-goers:
"Obama's first act as president of any consequence, in the middle of a financial meltdown, was to send taxpayers' money overseas to pay for the killing of unborn children in other countries. Now, I got to tell you, if a president will do that, there's almost nothing that you should be surprised at after that. We shouldn't be shocked that he does all these other insane things. A president that has lost his way that badly, that has no ability to see the image of God in these little fellow human beings, if he can't do that right, then he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity."
Franks spokesman Bethany Haley said the congressman was referring to "unborn humanity," according to the Associated Press, and should have been more clear. She added that Franks was saying the president's abortion policies have "no place in any station of government," not that the president himself should have no place in the government.

She added to the AP that Franks "was just referring to the way President Obama has set himself up as the most pro-abortion president in America's history."

People for the American Way, a liberal advocacy group, recorded and disseminated Franks' comments.

In other Franks news, the congressman said in an interview with The Washington Independent's Dave Weigel that he believes President Obama is a natural-born citizen. Franks, who considered suing the president for proof of citizenship before the election, called for the president to release his long-form birth certificate to settle the matter.

The Obama team released Mr. Obama's certification of live birth, which is treated like a birth certificate in Hawaii, during the campaign. The state of Hawaii cannot legally release the original document unless there is "a tangible interest in the vital record," and state officials have said they have seen and verified the legitimacy of the original document.

Republicans still don't believe they have lost it with the American working people, that being the vast majority.
Predicting a jolt for them 2010 and another crusher in the 2012 election. Because the American people are wise to them that they are for the rich and powerful and for the war heads.

The "enemy of humanity"? No, that would be lock-step conservatives who want everyone to do things the right-wing way. Fascists have taken over populations before. It didn't work out well.

IL-Dude, your claim that the cause of the economic down turn or fall is the consequence of the repeal of Glass-Stegal Act in 1999, is of no merit and totally beside the realm of the truth. You fail to realize that the Act's main objective was the separation or division of the various operations of the financial industry into three different categories namely: Commercial Banking, Investment Banking, and Insurance operations. In light of this, how does the repeal of this Act get us into the down turn? For your information, the current economic down turn was a result of the Bush Administration staunch belief in "Free Market." By "Free Market," the Administration meant the absence of Government supervision, or the absence of Regulations or blatant lack of fidility to set rules. In fact, the Administration adopted an atmosphere of abject lack of market discipline and lawlessness. So much so that industry supervisors paid little or no attention to the misbehaviors of the operators of the banking system. Thus, in the absence of strict policing by the Government, what we had was the disaster that followed. The irony is that a lot of Republicans or conservatives may think of Regulations as unnecessary frictions in business operations, but friction is as important and necessary as it is in the motion of a train as it is in the effective operation of markets, especially financial markets. As in locomotion, without friction in the form of Regulations, the financial markets will operate without boundaries, no discipline and will ultimately crash as runaway or frictionless trains. This is what exactly happened to the economy. Bankers, in pursuit of short-term gains acted in ignorance to due process, which is a pillar of the credit granting procedure. This failure, giving credit to who can't pay back the loans, is the primary reason for the crash of the financial markets; hence, the economy.

This is the kind of irresponsible and reprehensible extremist rhetoric that the conservative movement has embraced wholeheartedly...and it can lead to nothing but mischief. Clearly, the political right can't handle the fact that it lost the election and is out of power and its rhetoric has reflected its desperation by becoming even more shrill, irresponsible and reprehensible.

There are evil people out there...as well as those who are one can short of a six-pack who will be motivated by these kinds of statements to engage in acts of violence and those who make these kinds of statements will make their usual claims of innocence when it happens. We have already seen a federal census worker lynched and a doctor who performed abortion murdered...and all that comes from too much of both the political right and the leadership of the GOP is a collective yawn. We have seen Congressional town hall meetings disrupted, people bringing firearms to places where the President is speaking and some clown posted a poll on Facebook yesterday asking whether the President should be killed.

The one good thing about all of this is that all of their efforts to try to tear down President Obama are not benefitting their cause. Public approval of the GOP is still at or near an all-time low...and deservedly so. They ran the country into the ground when they held power and have nothing positive to offer to try to fix the mess that the country is now trying to get out of...and the public approval approval ratings of the GOP clearly show that the American people know it.

Why? Because they do not agree with you? You are the looser
