Former Republican Senator Rick Santorum revealed Friday night he is considering a run for president, according to a report.

Speaking at an invitation-only event for Catholic leaders, Santorum said he was "thinking about it" when asked about a potential 2012 bid, according to LifeSiteNews.com. He reportedly asked for the audience's prayers on the matter.

"Six months ago I would not have spent ten seconds on your question, but it's not six months ago," the former senator said at the Catholic Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. "I see that, I hate to be calculating, but I see that 2012 is not just throwing somebody out to be eaten, but it's a real opportunity for success."

Santorum represented Pennsylvania in the Senate for two terms and served as chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, but the conservative Republican lost his seat in 2006 to Democrat Bob Casey by a wide margin.

The former senator is scheduled to make a series of appearances in Iowa this fall, indicating he may be seriously mulling a run for president.

Rick Santorum will never represent anyone else then himself. Even if Sarah Palin was to run with him. The resulting EGO explostion would wipe out the planet.

To be serious, I lived under the "Rick Santorum Republic" and frankly if you think that Bush or Obama did not or are not listening to you now.... Just look at Rickys past and you will realize that he is far worse then anyone could be in recent times.

Some will say he stands for family values, yes he does.... his own and not yours. He is in this alll for himself and he will say anything and do anything to get elected.

Nothing of any merit that I can see or rememember got done under his rule. He never listened to the people he represented and did what ever he wanted. Would you want this guy in change of the launch codes?

Don't believe me, then go see what happend when his poor wife miscarred and lost their baby. Find out what he did for yourselves... you decide if this man (yes a man not a religious figure) is worthy of your vote or a straight-jacket

I am chagrined. I really expected a lot of support from others who also believe in Rick.

I can't understand why no one is backing me up on this. After all, Mr. Santorum really does represent the true beliefs of most republicans.

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha....Santorum represents about the worst the country has to offer. So of course the GOP will be interested, since they like the dregs.

This would be a really funny article if it weren't for the fact that this jackass is actually serious. After being unceremoniously booted out of the Senate, this moron thinks he is presidential quality? Truely pathetic!

Of that would really be funny if it was not so scary. The religious, wacko right combining with the unintelligent, clueless right. Why not Palin / Santorum in 2012. Kind of sexist to put a idiot male in front of a clueless female. But it would probably represent the best that the Republicans could hope to offer. Their slogan -- Ignorance is Bliss. It is something their base could really rally behind!

The republicans need some one like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck to run!
Then the world would see what kind of idiots these neocons are.

Rick Santorum would make an outstanding candidate for President in 2012. I would recommend he team up with Sarah Palin. Both Santorum and Palin are excellent representatives of republican values.

Santorum / Palin in 2012
