GOP Senator Won't Retreat from "Waterloo" Comment

(AP Photo/Dennis Cook)
Republican Sen. Jim DeMint refused to back down from comments last week in which he said a White House defeat on health care reform would be President Obama's "Waterloo."

"If we're able to stop Obama on this, it will be his Waterloo. It will break him," the South Carolina Republican, pictured center, was quoted last week as telling fellow conservatives.

Waterloo is a reference to French Emperor Napoleon's final defeat in 1815 at the hands of a British-led coalition, before finally being sent into permanent exile.

In an appearance on NBC's "Today" show Wednesday, DeMint said it was time to "put the brakes on" Mr. Obama's plans, which he said would result in too much government sending and soaring deficits.

"It's not personal. We've got to stop his politics," he said.

DeMint acknowledged the need for reform but said it would be a mistake to rush legislation through Congress by the President's August deadline.

Congressional skepticism isn't just limited to Republicans either. The Blue Dogs, a group of conservative Democrats, have also voiced concerns about the costs of the plan under House consideration.

With opposition stiffening and public support waning, Mr. Obama may not be able to get a bill on his desk before the Congressional recess in August. The president's scheduled to give his 5th news conference Wednesday night in hopes of jumpstarting the process.

President Obama (peace be with him) told a group of Democratic congressmen that "my presidency will be destroyed if you guys dont pass this healthcare..."

So, President Obama (peace be with him) agrees with Senator DeMint.

I feel a great feeling when Mortarman29 ignores my questions. I know he fears the answer. That shows a lot of emotional weaknesses in his upraising.

Lovegetpeace, I have answered your questions. Why have you not responded to the answers. Is it that you fear the answer?

Amigo Mortarman29,
We would not be here again, again, again, and again if Americans had listened to Senator Ted Kennedy in 1971 with his 1st attempt to reform the cost of health Care.

How would having Hospitals dispense whiskey-sours help reduce health care costs?

Medicare versus Private Health Insurance:
The Cost of Administration
http://www.cahi.org/cahi_contents/resources/pdf/CAHIMedicareTechnicalPaper.pdf

Private Insurance is 5 times more expensive to administer than MediCare. Most of the extra cost is for taxes,

commissions and profit. The government never pay taxes, commission, profit and dividends to itself.

I don't see much difference in what Repubs are trying to do to Obama and what Dems tried to do to Bush. There's a boatload of hypocrisy from some of the posters here. And not just this story but many others. For example, every time a soldier was killed in Afghanistan the lefties were all over that story bashing Bush (I'm not saying it wasn't deserved and yes in Afghanistan), but now when the same story occurs (like today) there is no lefty there making condemning comments. Why was it bad when Bush was running the show, but when the exact same thing happens under Obama's watch it's OK??

I notice a consistent reference to the President of the United States as Mr. Oboma. In political debate, reference to him should be President Oboma. I suspect if he or she were a Republican president the reference would be to their correct title because the term "president" holds tremendous weight. I hope the Republican agenda continues to fail. The American people finally have a president who will give them a fair deal and end corporate welfare as we know it today.
