Sen. Byrd Released From Hospital

West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd was released from the hospital today after battling two infections for over a month, the Associated Press reports. Sen. Byrd's office says he is recuperating in his West Virginia home but declined to say where he was receiving treatment.

"I am pleased to be home in anticipation of celebrating our nation's birthday with my loving family," Byrd said in a statement. "I also thank everyone who sent me their good wishes and prayer."

The Hill reports that the 91-year-old Democrat was hospitalized for a minor infection, but contracted a staph infection in the hospital. He will continue undergoing physical therapy at home.

Byrd is the longest-serving senator in U.S. history, having held office since 1959. Last November, he stepped down as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He is currently President Pro Tempore of the Senate, a position that puts him third in line for presidential succession.

The senator has had a number of previous health problems and several hospitalizations.

I mean please you could be taking it easy you have seen more than most and you have a family still alive you should enjoy it because life is over before you know it than there is nothing worst than regret.
