Laura Bush Discusses Husband's Low Profile

Echoing an earlier comment from George W. Bush, Laura Bush said her husband feels he "owes President Obama his silence" on issues.
"There's no reason to second-guess any decision [Obama] makes," said Laura Bush.
The former first lady also commended Mr. Obama's nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, stating that she "sounds like a winner and a good nominee."
"As a woman, I'm proud that there might be another woman on the court," Bush said. "I wish her well."
Unlike Mr. Bush, former vice president Dick Cheney has been harshly critical of the new administration. Laura Bush suggested Cheney's knowledge and experience drives him to challenge the president's agenda.
"I think [Cheney] feels obligated," Bush told ABC. "These are issues that are really important to him, and he knows a lot about them. So you know, I understand why he wants to speak out."
Bush also defended her husband's national security policies, saying the ends justified the means.
"It's easy to look back and say, 'We should have done this' or 'We should have done that,'" she said. "But, in fact, we are safe, and we didn't have another attack. And I think that's important."
