5039517Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor will meet with senators on Capitol Hill Tuesday, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said at his briefing today.

Gibbs said Sotomayor had meetings planned with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Judiciary Committee Chair Patrick Leahy, and Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee.

He also said there were efforts to set up a meeting with Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and that "other visits can be scheduled for that Tuesday and throughout the remainder of the week."

CBS News Capitol Hill producer Jill Jackson reports that the meeting with Reid is presently scheduled for around 10:15 a.m. ET.

The closed-door meetings will give Sotomayor and the senators who will vote on her confirmation a chance to feel each other out before formal hearings begin.

Gibbs said the questionnaire Sotomayor is filling out for the Judiciary Committee "will go up to the Senate at some point next week." That document will include information on her finances and personal life as well as a discussion of specific rulings.

Obama should tell the Senate to do what the Republicans would do. Just PASS the nomination with 51 votes. Who needs the Republicans!!! They are just a glob of slime used to gum up the machinery anyway. They have NO useful suggestions. Their sole purpose is to undermine this counrtry and weaken it. Rush is just another big sticky booger too Obama.

It would be an interesting debate between the most experienced U.S. Supreme Court nominee in over 100 years versus that radio buffoon Rush Limpballs.

Many of this womans written opinions are considered shallow. 80% of her decisions have been considered unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. But she is a mental "heavy weight"??

She is a blatant racist whos name should be withdrawn. If not the Dems are again showing their hypocrisy and they in fact do not care about racial equality.

She should debate Rush ,as a child she likely had a parakeet,so she is surely ready.

Sorry but Sonia is a mental giant whereas Rush is a mental pgymy. Also, Rush would never get into a situation where he has to defend his positions.

This meeting of the nominee with those who will approve or disapprove of her for the judgeship is assinine, archaic, and outdated! And it's a waste of time!

The senators have her answers to the written questionnaire, they'll get additional info from staffers, lobbyists, and constituents, and they probably already are leaning in one direction or another anyway!

So, it would be better if they didn't waste her time or their's either---but, what can you expect from a senator---old habits die hard!
