The entire first family came out to the South Lawn for the debut of their six-month old Portuguese Water Dog, Bo this afternoon.

Each of the family members took turns petting the black puppy with white paws.

"Here he is, the newest addition to the family," the president said in an introduction adding that "we all have to take turns walking the dog" – famous last words for parents of puppies.

Swarms of cameras and reporters anxiously awaiting Bo's entrance.

"It is spectacular and well deserved," President Obama said of the press coverage the dog is getting, "he is a star, he has star quality."

Asked where Bo will be sleeping, the president said they have a couple of spots but "not in my bed,"

"We want to make sure that we are responsible dog owners and everyone else is too," the president also said.

The only concern the family has, the president explained, is that apparently Portuguese Water Dogs like tomatoes. "Michelle's garden is in danger," he said.

"He doesn't know how to swim," Sasha added.

"I finally got a friend," Mr. Obama joked, "It look a while."

Before the family walked back across the lawn with Michelle holding Bo's leash, Mr. Obama said "we are very pleased with Bo." They all played around with the puppy in front of the fountain while the girls followed.

Bo seems to be adjusting well to his new home. He ran in spurts trailing whichever Obama was lucky enough to hold his leash.

Somehow I knew there would be dog haters on this site. No matter what happens, there are people that can not be happy for others. Its a dog that a family has, it happens to be the First Family's and his name is BO. No one commented on the beast that Bush had that snaps at Reporters. So why post their two-cents now.

I think that Bo is a very cute dog! Hooray for the Obama's! I was disappointed that they didn't get the dog from a shelter as they said but when you have allergy issues that probably wasn't an answer. Perhaps in the future they can find a suitable dog from a shelter so that Bo can have a companion that isn't a human.

Regardless of how I may feel about individual presidents, I always like the White House dogs. While George W. Bush was president, I Iiked Barney. And now, with Barack Obama serving as our president, I also like Bo. Hooray for ALL White House dogs!

I have one question, why is a dog in the White House getting so much publicity?? There has been a dog in the white house ever since i can remember and that is a long time my friend. And the question remains, why did they not adopt a dog from the pound as they said they were going to and if I am not mistaken, they already a breed selected but of course it is the same old thing, you scratch my back and I will scratch yours. Hopefully one of these days, they will have repaid all their favors to each other. It is kind of like the Merle Haggard song, "When a President goes through the White House Door and does what he says he will do". Guarntee, that will never hsppen in our life time. Thanks

The children named the dog, and he likes it. You see, Bo knows!

The "Dog Whisperer" knows what he is talking about, I used a few of his tricks on my German Shepard. The Obama family should tune in, because dogs are cute AND work.

How narcissistic does BO have to be. He even names the dog after himself: "Bo."

Get him "house broken" as quickly as possible!

Puddles and poop on the carpets in the White House
just won't do!

Though, I've read that when Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt moved into the White House, it was a disaster zone!

Literally, they had rats roaming around the halls, rooms, and ceilings! And, I don't mean the two-legged kind from Capitol Hill, either! :)
