The global leaders who gathered for the summit took "unprecedented steps to restore growth and prevent a crisis like this from happening again," he said. Among the steps taken was pledging an additional $1.1 trillion in financing to the International Monetary Fund and other global institutions, which will help developing countries. The leaders also announced a crackdown on tax havens and hedge funds.
Earlier Thursday, Mr. Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak agreed on the need "for a stern, united response from the international community" to North Korea's planned launch of a multistage rocket, which has stoked fears of a North Korean nuclear threat.
He also met with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to discuss the U.S.-Indian relationship.
