Rove: Democrats Want To See Me "Barbecued"
3161772Karl Rove, the former top adviser to President George W. Bush, today told Fox News that while he is worried that his appearance before the House Judiciary Committee concerning the firing of U.S. attorneys could become a "show trial," he looks forward to the opportunity to explain his role.
Rove told Fox that some Democrats, among them as Michigan Democrat and Judiciary Committee chair Rep. John Conyers (left), are targeting him above all others. He suggested they are less concerned with the other Bush administration figures involved in the scandal, White House Counsel Harriet Miers and Chief of Staff Josh Bolten.
"I understand [Miers and Bolton] may be the hors d'oeuvres, but I'm the main course," Rove said. "Some Democrats would love to have me barbecued."
Rove also suggested that he sees little problem with contact between the White House and Justice Department, pointing to the fact that Gregory Craig, who is now White House General Counsel, campaigned for President Obama when Mr. Obama was a candidate.
"If White House contact with the Justice Department is inappropriate, then what are we doing by allowing anybody who has anything remotely to do with the political campaign -- like the general counsel of the Obama White House - to have any contact with the Justice Department?" he said.
Rove acknowledged that he passed along complaints about U.S. Attorneys David Iglesias and Kevin Ryan to Miers and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales while in the White House. Iglesias and Ryan are among the attorneys whom Gonzales later fired.
