Limbaugh Wants To Debate Obama

4843002Radio host Rush Limbaugh, whom the White House has repeatedly suggested is the true head of the Republican Party, is challenging President Obama to a debate.

"If these guys are so impressed with themselves, and if they are so sure of their correctness, why doesn't President Obama come on my show?," Limbaugh said today. "We will do a one-on-one debate of ideas and policies."

"They wanted me to be the focus of attention," Limbaugh continued, referencing reports that the White House is working to tie him to the GOP. "So let's have the debate! I am offering President Obama to come on this program -- without staffers, without a TelePrompTer, without note cards -- to debate me on the issues. Let's talk about free markets versus government control. Let's talk about nationalizing health care and raising taxes on small business."

"If you can win at this, then come here and beat me at my own game, and get rid of me once and for all, and show all the people of America that I am wrong," he added.

The White House had no immediate response to the request.

Politico reported today that Democrats hatched an effort to link Limbaugh and the GOP when they realized that his positive rating among voters under 40 was a paltry 11 percent – lower even than Mr. Obama's controversial former preacher, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The effort took off in earnest when Limbaugh suggested he wanted the president to fail – a comment quickly spotlighted by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, Democratic talking heads and liberal group Americans United for Change, which spotlighted it in an ad.

The radio host essentially repeated the comment in a high-profile speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, further fueling White House efforts to tie to polarizing radio host to the Republican Party.

The GOP, as political-watchers well know, is looking to broaden its appeal after losing significant ground in the 2008 election; Limbaugh appeals largely to older white men, most of whom are strong conservatives, and is not seen as someone who will draw new types of voters to the GOP.

That's why viewers of CBS' "Face The Nation" recently saw White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel tell Bob Schieffer that Limbaugh had become "the voice and the intellectual force and energy behind the Republican Party" – and why, just today, Mr. Obama's campaign manager, David Plouffe, wrote in the Washington Post that "Rush Limbaugh has become [the Republicans'] leader."

It's also why Democrats have been overjoyed to see flare-ups involving RNC chair Michael Steele and other Republicans, who have distanced themselves from the radio host and later apologized for doing so. (For evidence, check out the DCCC's Limbaugh apology form letter.)

Congressional Republicans, who would surely prefer that Limbaugh disappear from the headlines, have launched a counteroffensive, dismissing the White House effort as a "cynical strategy" and an attempt to divert people from the real issues.

The back-and-forth benefits both the Democrats and the radio host, says CBS News Political Director Steve Chaggaris.

This is about two groups - the Democrats and Rush Limbaugh - selling their products," he says. "In this case, the Democrats are selling their brand of politics; Limbaugh, his radio show."

Likely less thrilled with all the Rush-related headlines, however, is a Republican Party that still lacks an obvious leader and is "scrambling to figure out what their message is and who will be delivering that message," he writes. (Read Chaggaris' full analysis here>.)

If there were to be a debate, Limpaw would , bloviate, Obfuscate, huff and puff, accuse and generally shout down any thing that Obama said. The Pres has to watch his words carefully or risk being impeached for (whatever). Limpaw can't be charged for any lie he tells, (freedom of speech). He would not be able to provide substance with his rhetoric, but he will tell us that 'HE' doesn't have to. (he is demanding an accounting) so he should not have to have anything but questions couched in sarcasm and other phantasmagoria provided by the press. He will 'accuse' without evidence and distract when answered. (I have seen his act several times) The last time I looked a baseless charge would result in slander charges.

Rush save your breathe you are not even in the same league as Obama and he shouldn't waste his time debating with a right wing bigot like yourself. He has much more important things on his plate than debating with a non-entity like yourself. Do us all a favour and just go back to doing what you do and that is trying to defame any Democratic leader you can just like the years you wasted trying to defame Clinton. You rhetoric is just that and by the way it is getting old and stale!

A group called Wall Street Watch is out with a report that finds that ?Wall Street investment firms, commercial banks, hedge funds, real estate companies and insurance conglomerates made $1.7 billion in political contributions and spent another $3.4 billion on lobbyists? between 1998 and 2008.

The report, "Sold Out: How Wall Street and Washington Betrayed America," concludes that the contributions were ?aimed at undercutting federal regulation? and ultimately ?led directly to the current financial collapse.?

Look this is a lot of BS and even if its true, in time, I'm going be gullible and do the same thing over again and again ...... just like the Einsteins of our day Oweenee in Washington is expecting us to do. Sometimes the best buys are the ones we don't make.

How dare you call the Great Oheemie a Nobody. He single handed destroyed the future of our childeren and grand children as well as democracy as this as we all knew it and is trying to turn our country into the "National Socalist State of America". So please, give this Kenya National some credit besides of course being the greatest con man in history - EVER - .

You are pretty alarmist there without any supporting evidence. The economic crisis developed during GOP rule. Obama is trying something to fix it that may involve temporary nationalism of some banks, etc. but most economists agree with his actions. And get off the Kenyan BS. He's an American citizen. Bush was the ultimate con man, and I bet you fell hard for his propaganda.

Which makes it all the sweeter when Rush cleans his clock! You see, it doesnt take a Harvard lawyer to figure out our Founding and to figure out what works and what doesnt. But, seeing as how Obama is supposedly a constitutional lawyer, the fact he supports so many unconstitutional things means he is either an idiot OR, more likely, could care less about the Constitution.

Man, what are you talking about?? Were you concerned that Bush was flagrantly abusing the Constitution? Name one thing Obama has done that's unconstitutional.
And by the way, the market went down because GM is failing. What's your solution for that? Let it fail and take the market with it? It's not Obama 's fault. If you want to assign blame, look at Bush, the GOP, and especially Phil Gramm (R).

By the way, here's the Preamble to the Constitution:
"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Notice "promote the general welfare". What does that mean to you? More tax cuts for the wealthy?? Or programs like social security and medicare?

Why would any President waste time debating a tv or radio show host? Presidents govern a country--they don't entertain the masses. So why are you trying to change what a President does? Would you try this if this was a white, Republican President? Would you be demanding he go on the Olbermann or Maddow or Chris Matthew shows to entertain the country or the Democrats?

We thought not. Your party and you people, become more weird and bizarre (desperate) by the day. Grow up--Obama is just a person--but he happens to be our CIC--even if you don't like him or the Dems--surely your country deserves more from YOU in this time, than this bullcrappppp?

If rush wanted to prove this isn't a stunt, he'd challenge someone more consistent with his qualifications, like Al Franken or Slappy White.

Anecdotal. Good for your brother. But Anecdotal. And you can't seem to focus on terminology. Federal Tax RATE, spud. At 35 percent, paying 20k puts your income at less than 60k. Check your numbers, you get a tax cut.

And if entitlements for the sick & underprivaleged bothers you so much, leave. That is, if you can find an industrialized country that doesn't do that.

Then thank the neocons that you sadly refer to as conservatives. Remember "unfunded mandates"? Thank that socialist ronnie reagan, under whom taxes went up more than any other prez in history.

Upper strata incomes famously pay federal taxes at a lower rate than the rest of us. Equity is past. If you don't like the American system of government changeover, leave.
