Chris Matthews' "Oh God" Blooper

As Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal walked out to rebut President Obama last night, MSNBC's Chris Matthews uttered two words on a live mic that quickly echoed through political circles: "Oh God."

The Hardball host later said that he was "taken aback" by the stagecraft of Jindal's entrance. He had already prepared a statement explaining his reaction on Hardball later on tonight.

After the words were uttered, news outlets and blogs had plenty fun with it, speculating about who could have dropped the comment, since it was unclear during the broadcast. Keith Olbermann, Matthews and others were among the candidates. The Huffington Post even made a poll about the comment, with 32 percent of respondents correctly guessing it came from Matthews.

Politico points out that this is not the first time Matthews said "oh God" on a live mic. He did the same in 2007, when Ron Paul was responding to a question during a GOP debate.

Hello Chris,

My family had a saying,"You are known by the company you keep."

Please do a story on the people that surround President Obama and their postions.

Please also explain how he acquire his property at a price that low.

And finally, how many deals has he done with that particular individual.

Thanking you in a advance as I believe you will not look away from the truth.

Oh God... is exactly what I was thinking as well. Sorry guys but Jindal needs a consultant on image projection, public speaking and a few other skills which every politician needs to connect with the public.

I was thinking.. where's the tutu and ballet shoes?... and his facial expression was equivalent to a Miss America contestant. I was so distracted I had to restart my DVR and listen to his speech a second time.

Unfortunately, not looking at him did not improve my opinion of the "substance" of his speech.

The Republicans need something but, the same old play, from the same old playbook isn?t in the best interest for Americans and what is needed to be accomplished to reverse the slide of our Nation as a direct result of Conservatism.

"Oh God!" Bobby Jindhal has been exposed as an opportunistic political hack. His appearance after the astonishing performance by Obama may not have buried his coffin, but certainly hammered a couple of nails in it.

Palin/Jindhal in 2012! LOL

I didn't know Mathews one of those idiots that believes in god. As for the Repugnicans they are now in the same place as the Denublicans were 8 years ago. Just sit back and enjoy the 8 year ride while both sides of the WWF try to spend their way out of this mess. What a true sign of stupidity it is that these bloggers here think there is a nickles difference between these parties. HaHaHaHaHa

I heard that an you have totally misrepresented it. Mathews was referring to the fact that the response did not come from a GOP member of the house or Senate but was "Outsourced" to a Governor. ..."

It is normal for a Governor to provide the party response when the President of opposing party gives a speech to both Houses of Congress.

nevminer: Constructive debate does require compromise when necessary, provided the opportunity for debate is given. At times, quick and decisive action is required to avert a potential disaster. More to the point quick, decisive, and correct action is required. One of the reasons for America's economic predicament is clear. Simply put fiscal irresponsibility. If the intent of the Republican minority was only to obstruct progress on a possible solution to the economic crisis, that problem can be remedied at the next election cycle. Bold, aggressive action is required to unravel this economic mess, as long as it is focused and deliberate. The ear marks seem to be a legitimate point of concern worthy of debate; particularly in these tough economic times. Fiscal responsibility should be exercised by the Democrats, or they too can be reminded of a painful lesson recently learned by the Republicans. Thank you for the coversation.

Oh God!!! This is the person being used to build up the popularity of the Republican Party!!!

Oh God!! Please help the Republican party find someone better to be their front person!!! If this is the best they got, it will be a landslide in 2012!!

Oh God!! A reporters biggest nightmare....dead bottom lost arguments being used to make a case to resist change!!!

I wonder what followed "Oh God" after the microphone was cut off.
