Michelle Obama: White House Dog In April!

In an interview with People magazine, Michelle Obama offered up with she called "some scoops" on the question on everyone's mind – when is the dog coming?

(AP)
Mrs. Obama said the first family will welcome its first canine after they go on vacation for spring break – though her daughters are trying to push up the date as much as possible.

"Got to do it after spring break," she told People's Sandra Sobieraj Westfall. "You can't get a new dog and then go away for a week."

The first lady said they are still leaning towards rescuing a Portuguese Water who is "old enough" and a good "match" for their White House lives.

"Temperamentally they're supposed to be pretty good," Mrs. Obama said. "From the size perspective, they're sort of middle of the road – it's not small, but it's not a huge dog. And the folks that we know who own them have raved about them. So that's where we're leaning."

While the breed may be decided, the name remains a point of contention in the Obama household.

"Oh, the names are really bad. I don't even want to mention it, because there are names floating around and they're bad," Mrs. Obama told People. "You listen and you go – like, I think, Frank was one of them. Frank! Moose was another one of them. Moose. I said, well, what if the dog isn't a moose? Moose. I'm like, no, come on, let's work with the names a little bit."

If you wonder at the amount of attention his decision has garnered, you are not alone.

"One of the things I didn't anticipate is the level of the excitement about the dog," Mrs. Obama said in the interview. "I knew my kids were excited. They've been excited for years. They've even calmed down, because they feel like, 'They said we're going to get one, so let's just shut up about it.' "

How wonderful for the entire family. I'm excited to see what breed, what gender and what the family will name the dog. It's going to be a great experience for the children and the parents. Enjoy your new addition and hopefully the dog will be overjoyed to live with the family at the White House.

Some people care about lots of things. Worry about lots of things. But it's nice to see a little sunshine from children once in a while. Speaking of which The White House children are enjoying the idea o having a dog. Mom and dad are right in tune with overseeing the right dog.
I notice they (Obamas) take careful consideration for whats is the best dog for their children. And I believe President Obama does the same with anything he is tackling. Rather it being a dog for the kids or our country.

I believe it is what we need right now is to have some enjoyment from children. It makes me feel happy to see or hear the joy coming from the White House children. Some people are just mean when they are just thinking of themselves.

Who the HECK cares!!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds as though they are only getting one to satisfy their political image. I wouldn't give them one of my rescue dogs free!!!!!!!!! They are an obamanation and shouldn't be in the White House! She is ugly and the only thing that you see when she talks or smiles is that jaw of hers that juts out and her underbite. Looks like her parents would have had that fixed years ago!!!!!

Why do we care about President's pets? I am a big animal lover, but I have more to be concerned with than the President's pet. It is nice to have fun news, but enough already.

When I was about 13 or 14, I used to do pet-sitting and my neighbor had one of these dogs and she was so strong my daddy had to help me walk her because she'd get so excited she'd want go FAST! And by my daddy had to help me I mean he had to do the walking and sometimes I'd go with him if I felt like it (LOL)

Also, I'd have to take her home everyday so she could go swimming because she's a water dog and love love loved to swim. Which meant I had to sit there and watch her paddle and paddle and paddle around for ages - maybe more like half an hour, but it felt like forever at that age.

And then when I rubbed her tummy and then stopped, she'd take her meaty paw and drag my hand back to her tummy to show she didn't want me to stop - it was like arm wrestling and she'd win every time because she was so strong.

She was very lovable, but kind of high-maintenance! Maybe we spoiled her . . .
