A busy few days of politics, relaxation and romance awaits the Obamas.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs today laid out a packed schedule for the new president and his family during a press briefing.

In order to drum up support for his stimulus package, President Obama will take his show on the road. Plans call for the president to visit two cities that have been particularly hard hit by the recession.

On Monday and Tuesday, Mr. Obama will host town hall meetings in Elkhart, Ind. and Fort Myers, Fla., to explain how his economic recovery plan will put Americans back to work.

Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen has an unemployment rate of 15.3 percent and Florida's Fort Myers is burdened with an unemployment rate of 10 percent.

Though these areas have felt the economic downturn intensely, new data released today indicated that the U.S. is in the midst of a prolonged and painful recession.

According to a report by the Labor Department, 598,000 jobs were cut in January, the most since the end of 1974, and the unemployment rate jumped to 7.6 percent.

Though the economic outlook continues to be bleak and the stimulus package remains a lighting rod for critics, the Obamas will carve out time for more light-hearted pursuits.

Friday night means date night for the first couple. The Obamas will take in a sold-out performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater from the best seats in the Kennedy Center – the president's box.

Friday date nights are something of a tradition in the Obama household. But the weekend will be filled with activities for the entire family too.

The White House announced that Mr. Obama and his family will make their first visit to Camp David. Gibbs said the Obamas will leave Saturday for the country estate in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains. The family is expected to return on Sunday.

The weather should be nice: As the Associated Press notes, temperatures in the Washington area this weekend are expected to hit the mid-50s.

What is sad that not everyone can
remember this side of recent
history. They fantasize that the
2 Georges and Reagon were the
epitomy of democracy. Well we on
the other side of the spectrum see
it totally differently. Our ideas
have been surpressed for the last
8 years! Now that the shoe is on
the other foot these idealogs
can''t deal with it. Well you better
open your eyes everybody has a
right to their opinions!

You people have got to be kidding me? When will the genuflecting of this MAN, stop? Can''t the press find some REAL hard news stories to write about? People are losing their jobs, homes and families for God''s sake! For a country that is so opposed to a Moncharchial form of government, many of our citizens and news outlets sure make our President out to be one!!!!

Vietnam? John F. Kennedy (Democrat), Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat)

Korean war? Harry S. Truman (Democrat)

WWII? Franklin D. Roosevelt (Democrat)

WWI? Woodrow Wilson (Democrat)

Care to revise your BS that Republicans are the party of war???

You frikin idiots are so brainwashed by your media and teachers, you don''''t know what left and right is, anymore.

You left out Nixon, who escalated Vietnam and broke his promise of ending it. Also you left out Eisenhower who originally took us to Vietnam.

Roosevelt? The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, we responded and won by the way in case you didn''t notice. As a point you might want to bone up on pre WWII and the non trade agreements the US and Britan used that set the stage for Japanese action that led to Pearl Harbor.

You might also do some history digging on Wilson''s WWI decision and his actions to reach an armistace.

As to give um hell Harry--might want to read up on that to. The first week of that decision is interesting to say the least.
