President Obama will hold his first formal press conference as president in prime-time on Monday night.

During his daily briefing today, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said that Mr. Obama will answer questions from reporters at 8 p.m. eastern time this coming Monday.

While Mr. Obama has answered a few questions from reporters during some White House events, he has not held a formal news conference yet since becoming president.

As a comparison, CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports that President Bush's first White House news conference was Feb. 22 - but it was at 2:40 p.m. in the afternoon in the Briefing Room.

Mr. Bush's first prime-time news conference was not until Oct. 11, 2001 -- nearly nine months into his presidency.

Please push the President on his sensitivity to the unemployed, after his visit to Elkhart Monday, and nail down a new extension of benefits for the longterm unemployed....things are getting worse and not better....as we just begin to TRY TO CHANGE THE TIDE...with stimulus, etc.

In having his Monday press conference, President Obama will already have given more access to him by the press and the American people than Bush did in all of 8 years. Bush always came across as being afraid to answer questions. Hmmm...perhaps he was HIDING something that he didn''t want us to know...... wink wink

Thank you CBS for providing the comparison to Bush''s accessibility. Too soon will Americans forget (and the GOP lie) about how truly insulated, uninvolved, and failed Bush was as President.
