"The Biden family will soon have a new addition to their household: a German Shepherd puppy. The Vice President-elect previously owned three other German Shepherds so he's familiar with the breed and its personality," a statement from Biden's office read.

The six-week old pooch was bred by Chester County, Pa., breeder Linda Brown who, according to the Wilmington News Journal, has been inundated with requests for a look at the newly famous canine.

The Vice President-elect, the Wilmington News Journal also reports, enlisted the help of Police K-9 coordinator Cpl. Mark Tobin, whose weeklong search ended when he found this "well-tempered, people-friendly and social" pet. The breeder told the newspaper, as soon as the selection was made, Biden, "a real German Shepherd lover" asked to come the next morning to meet his future dog. "What are you going to say to the vice president?" Brown admitted. "I said, 'Sure.'" (Read more from the Wilmington News Journal)

While much attention has been paid to the Obama's hunt for the perfect White House companion, this little German Sheppard will hopefully like his new Washington, D.C., digs.

CBSNews.com also confirms that the future second dog has not yet been named. While the decision lies with Biden's grandchildren, we are taking suggestions in the comment spaces below.

Shepherds are extremely intelligent dogs. I own two of them and would never have any other breed. Very easy to train and a lot of fun to work with.
Veep is a great name for the pooch.

Doesn''t any politician like cats? Maybe cats are too smart, think for themselves, and can actually train politicians to do their bidding.

With Biden''s history of plaigerism, he should have gotten a clone.

He should have adopted from a shelter or rescue group not a puppy farm.

He didn''t get it from a puppy farm, that is where pet stores get their puppies from. He went directly to a breeder that treats their animals with love and respect.

There''s at least one other - Fort Knox in KY.

Cute story but news???? - not really.

Yes - Hitler''s dog was named Blondi, in fact The National Socialists embraced animal welfare as a central theme. After Bush''s announcement today gutting the endangered species act, I guess even Hitler wouldn''t approve of him.
