Senate Dems to keep pushing Obama's jobs plan

Harry Reid Associated Press

Senate Democrats are aiming to vote as early as this week on part of Mr. Obama's $447 billion jobs plan, which gives $35 billion to teachers and first responders like firefighters.

Senate Republicans voted unanimously to block President Obama's $447 billion jobs bill last week, so Democrats plan to put the individual elements of the plan up for a vote one by one, figuring the specific measure will be harder for Republicans to oppose.

The recession "has threatened their ability to give our children the education they deserve," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters Monday. Since 2008, state and local budget cuts have cost the nation 300,000 education jobs, he said. "State and local budgets could cost as many as 280,000 teacher jobs next year unless we do more."

The first component of the plan would invest $30 billion to help school districts avoid layoffs and rehire teachers. Another $5 billion would be spent retaining the police, firefighters and first responders. It would be fully paid for with a .5 percent surtax on millionaires -- Senate Democrats plan to carve up the 5.6 percent surtax on millionaires they've proposed and apply it to different portions of the jobs bill as they put them up for a vote.

While Reid is aiming to vote on the $35 billion measure this week -- as Mr. Obama tours key electoral states promoting his agenda and lambasting Republicans for obstructing it -- the Senate's current work on a federal funding bill could delay its consideration.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement it's "disappointing" that Democrats remain focused on the Jobs Act.

He pointed out that Congress has recently passed bipartisan economic measures, such as a trio of free trade agreements. "Democrats should build off these bipartisan accomplishments by turning to other proposals for spurring private sector job creation that both parties could support--rather than a permanent tax hike for a temporary stimulus," he said.

Anyone who buys into the myth that this so-called jobs bill will put teachers and police back to work obviously don't realize that the federal government doesn't create these types of jobs, the states and local districts are responsible for these types of jobs. Once again, we hear the lies and misrepresentations by our president and the Dems to feed into the misconceptions of the gullible.

Anyone that buys into the myth that republicans have a true jobs bill is either delusional or a republican shill or both.

THE MAN IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR REELECTION YET NO ONE WILL INVESTIGATE AND REPORT SERIOUS ISSUES.

Why does his SS number show as fraudulent when submitted to the e-verify system?

Why does a Harry Bounel share the same Chicago address and social sec. # as Obama?

Every expert that has examined his birth certificate has declared it fraudulent for many reasons, the best being that typewriters cannot change the shape of a letter between the beginning and end of a document.

What is behind this fraud that no one will investigate? How do we know who he really is? Since lying to achieve goals is an accepted muslim practice, how do we know he's not there to bring us down from within? His policies certainly are pushing us down that path.

There are some very powerful entities behind this fraud or it would be investigated.

Medicare Part D will cost taxpayers $62 billion this year with expectations of $150B/year in 8 years. In present value terms, Medicare Part D adds almost $16 trillion to our national indebtedness.

Thanks, Bush. I'm sure your friends at the pharm companies are quite happy with your 'performance'.

Keep in mind that all of the foreign aid we give away to other countries is $56 billion annually. And we BORROW money to do that, which I find insane.

The health care law costs American taxpayers $105 billion in additional spending each year. This, after Democrats cut Medicare by $400 billion in an attempt to fund Obamacare instead. In 2014, the health care law imposes huge additional expenses and regulations on businesses for EACH EMPLOYEE. It is a jobs killing law, and it is a disaster. It will cost the US dearly in it's idiocy.

It's pretty clear that Mitch McConnell is incompetent. From spouting off last week that four out of five millionaires are small businesses employing more than 300,000 people (yes, cause 300,000 employees is a 'small' business) to this week claiming that a permanent tax increase would provide a 'temporary' stimulus. Uh, Mitch, last time I checked, a permanent tax increase provides, well, permanent increase in revenue.

Does anybody take this guy seriously anymore?

If I went to my boss and said hey remember the Trillion I spent that showed no results. Well I now want just 1/2 a Trillion. Believe me I know it will work..

After the hysterical laughter subsided. The first question I would be asked would be, how quickly can I pack up my personal things and leave the premises.?

So you're against welfare to countries in the Middle East, including Israel?

Hopefully you're also against corporate subsidies, and our out-of-control military spending.

The statement that the first stimulus showed zero results is conservative propaganda, 100% fact free. Before the first stimulus we were losing 750,000 jobs per month, negative GDP, after stimulus plus 100,000 jobs per month and growing GDP. By any measure, that is very positive result.

I have all the respect in the world for fire fighters and teachers (my daughter is a secondary ed major in college). However, the jobs President Obama claims this bill to create are all in union areas (his supporters). He wants to tax the crap out of the entire country to reward his political supporters. I call that political corruption at the public's expense.

I want the economy to turn around for the entire nation, not just for his select few. His bill needs to be flushed.
