Romney boasts of Cadillac collection at Ford dealership

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, left, arrives for a business roundtable at a local car dealership, with Jim Click, Jr., President of Jim Click Automotive Team, Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz.

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney highlighted his Michigan roots Wednesday at an Arizona Ford dealership, telling the owner about his collection of Cadillacs.

The Romney campaign set up the event at a Tucson showroom to highlight the former Massachusetts governor's business experience. But Romney wanted to talk cars.

"See I'm a Detroit guy, so, you know, I only have domestics. I have a couple of Cadillacs, at two different houses. You know, small crossovers," Romney told owner Jim Click as he toured the showroom ahead of the event.

Perhaps realizing his surroundings, Romney quickly added that he also has a Ford Mustang. Romney's father George was governor of Michigan in the 1960s.

According to financial disclosures released last month, the former Bain Capital executive is estimated to be worth somewhere between $190-$250 million. In addition to a Boston townhouse, Romney owns a beach house in California and a lake house in New Hampshire.

Wealthy presidential candidates often struggle to identify with average voters. In 2008, Republican nominee John McCain was tripped up after being unable to say how many homes he owned. In 2004, Republicans ran ads showing Democrat John Kerry windsurfing near his summer house in Nantucket.

Jim Click was later overheard telling is staff to see to it that that big jerk is never to set foot in this show room again. The nerve of him boasting about his caddys in my Ford showroom.

We should worry about millionaire Romney owning two American made Cadillac's when Democratic Senator John Kerry just bought a 78-foot, $7 Million-Dollar New Zealand built yacht, then goes through another state to avoid paying his home state of Massachusetts $400 Thousand Dollars in taxes.

Why is it Democrats are always raising taxes, but always avoid paying them?

"Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I."

It is an "Inconvenient Truth" That democrats want everyone but them to pay higher taxes!

All this tax the rich chant from rich liberals is kind of funny since rich liberals spend millions every year on accountants to find ways to pay fewer taxes. If a rich liberal truly believes he doesn't pay enough taxes just fire your accountant and pay the 35% you currently could be paying

Wow I guess you are a bit myopic about spin. You see you are acting liking the very same koolaid drinking lap dog but for the democrats.
Don't you love how,
""See I'm a Detroit guy, so, you know, I only have domestics. I have a couple of Cadillacs, at two different houses. You know, small crossovers," Romney told owner Jim Click as he toured the showroom ahead of the event."
Becomes "Romney boasts of Cadillac collection at Ford dealership"
Here let me help you.
1. Two Cadillacs is not a collection.
2. Saying that he owns two cross overs is not exactly boasting.
This news service put so much spin on that headline that it just isn't funny. It so clearly biased that any thinking person should be deeply upset with the new source. They are manipulating your to pick how they think you should.
Now if Romney had said "I have one of the finest collections of classic Cadillacs in the US" then the headline would be valid but then I don't don't see why people would hate on him just for having a car collection. Lots of people do including Jay Leno and a good number of other well to do people and even some not so well to do people.

thats like going to the Georga Welcome center and ask for the nearest pepsi machine.. ( if you dont know Coke is the state beverage of

Or ask for some Grapefruit juice at the Fla Welcome center (they give a glass of OJ to visitors)
or asking a Morman how many wives he has back in the house all proving how out of touch with today and values of common knowledge on a subject.

"Or ask for some Grapefruit juice at the Fla Welcome center "
Ummm... They should have both, we grow a lot of both Grapefruit and Oranges here in FL. In fact many people believe Indian River Grapefruit is the best in the world. Yes my father was involved in the selling and shipping of huge quantities of Grapefruit all over the world but mainly to Japan.
If you take a look at the symbol on the this Florida Citrus website you will see that the tree has both orange and yellow fruit on it to represent orange and grapefruit growers.

not as tone deaf as the President. I'm a working stiff and I also own two homes and a few cars as do many Americans, both democrats & republicans. If you don't like Romney, good for you but try to at least find a real reason.

The real problem with congress is that they reflect the top 1% of wealthiest americans. In other words they own congress too.

Romney was probably given a Cadillac when he was 4 by his super-rich Daddy. He probably had his personal butler drive him around the estate in it.

yes... its a horrible crime to inherit money. People shouldn't be allowed to run for President if they do. It means they came from a lineage of successful people. Shame on him...

smirk5: I guess you would be in favor of voting for a President who is an economic failure? I have no problem considering someone who understand economics and is a business success. We could use a little of that right now. Don't you think?
linkicon reporticon emailicon
RobAla says:
Why is it news that Romney spends his own money on American cars? Must be a slow news day. Or perhaps CBS is ignoring the fact that a group of Democrat and Republican Senators (39 of them) have come up with an alternative economics plan to President Obama's (and it happens to be a lot like the plan Reagan used in the 80s to restore the economy). I think that would be more newsworthy than the fact that Romney buys American cars. But that is just me.

Ah, Rob it is that this scion of privilege and alleged car enthusiast seems not to know that Cadillacs are the product of GM, not Ford. He probably has some Lincolns too. Should have stuck with that.

It's news for the same reason you people flock to these boards whining every time the President takes a vacation or does something for his wife when most of you know that as President he is responsible for his own personal expenses. I mean the President is a millionaire in his own right and spends his own money on his vacations but the Obama haters still whine about it, vilify, condemn him and scream about it.
