Report: Obama to propose $300B jobs plan

Obama previews jobs proposal in Detroit

President Obama made an appearance in Detroit, Mich., on Monday, where he addressed thousands of labor union members at a rally sponsored by the Metropolitan Detroit AFL-CIO.

In his speech Thursday before Congress on improving the nation's dismal jobs outlook, President Barack Obama will propose injecting more than $300 billion into the economy next year, Bloomberg News reports.

That figure will be reached through a combination of tax cuts, infrastructure spending and direct aid to state and local governments, Bloomberg claims.

The sticking point to this plan will likely be the fact that Obama is going to call for offsetting the cost of the plan by raising tax revenues in later years - an idea that Republicans have come out so steadfastly against, it has derailed political progress in Washington more than once recently.

Fall forecast: Finger pointing and gridlock in Washington

Obama is going to fold this plan in with a long-term deficit reduction package that he will present next week to the congressional panel set up during the recent debt ceiling negotiations, Bloomberg reports.

Obama's proposal faces a tough fight against an emboldened GOP, fresh off a victory over concessions in the debt ceiling negotiations. Obama also faces a skeptical public, as his approval ratings have hit yet another record low.

We are not going to lay down and let the oligarchs steamroll over us workers. So far they have been successful in brainwashing many people, chiefly Republicons.

The ONLY thing that will save us is to join with the unions and getting EVERYONE'S pay raised so we ALL have more money to spend. THAT is what has always driven the middle class economy.

Now that Obama and his friend Hoffa have referred to moderates and conservatives as "barbarians and SxOxBxs," Obama is expected to give his speech before Congress looking at the "barbarians and SxOxBxs" pounding his shoe on the podium and screaming, "We will bury you!"

Obama's investment in infrastructure in response to the jobs crisis in America is to spend lots and lots of money building bridges across America, then spending gobs more money to dig the rivers to go under them.

We also need to stop globalization by getting rid of the WTO. World Bank and IMF (or at least have then nationalized). Rescind the ghastly and fake "free-trade" agreements that benefit mostly giant corporations. Put trade tariffs so that imported goods like from China are cheaper to produce here.

Get rid of all corporate money in elections and corporate lobbyists in Washington. Strongly regulate big corporation (oil, health insurance, drug, military, banks, etc., etc. etc.). IT ALL WORKED FINE BEFORE (REAGAN)!!!!!!!!!!

This president and his party have done more harm than good in painting anyone who opposes their illustrious failed plans as un-American, selfish, greedy, hostile, etc. For any of them to condemn Republicans and members of the TEA party as such are despicable and part of the problems facing this nation. For the president and his party to be taken seriously, they need to quantify line by line this latest scheme and gimmick. Infrastructure rebuilding is fine, but those aren't permanent jobs and they're primarily union jobs. What about long-term non-union private sector jobs? How about having everyone pay some taxes, including those who don't pay taxes at all, which not only includes the so-called wealthy, but those who currently don't pay any taxes because they're so-called poor. Everyone needs to sacrifice, including the poor. Make them also have some stake in all of this...after all, other taxpayers are floating them and it's time this group gets involved and starts earning their keep.

This mantra about "having no money" should be stopped! Never in America's history have American corporations had more cash on their books than now! So, the question is: are they "American" and do they care what happens to their fellow constituents in this nation, or are they "global" owing no allegience to America (other than to their shareholders)? If they care about America, they would rebuild America (somehow; through taxes and government or through some other mechanism that by-passes government- if it is government that's not trusted.)

@tehtruthabout; anyone with a basic awareness of the business world and capitalism 101 knows Corporations are not owned exclusively by americans! I guess that's the "dumbed down" level discourse is now at. using your own argument, this should have been reason enough to NOT use taxpayer money (govt bailouts) of failing financial corporations, etc. Seems like you may already be living in a Commie country (a bailout arranged by the Former administration).

Again, what is the tea party doing? NOTHING. Even Reagan knew the price of doing nothing.

Where do these baggers get their thinking?

What exactly does the tea party have control of to do something?

We have amnesia. In 2009, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave America's infrastructure failing marks. According to the 2009 report, the cost of up-dating the infrastructure was set at $ 2.2 trillion dollars. The stimulus program of 2009 and Obama's present proposals are just a down payment of what's to be done.
Furthermore, global climate change will wreak further havoc on our crumbling infrastructure. Look at what Hurricane Irene did, and that degenerated into a tropical storm. That's only a preview of what's to come as we dump more carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
Once can attack Obama for timidity - but look at who's in Congress. Those folks want us to go back to the Stone Age. And era of no taxes, no government, and where everybody can get a gun.
If you want to see how the GOP pipe dream is working out, go to Somalia. That's our future under the GOP.
