Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann said Thursday there is a growing fear among Americans about an "unstoppable decline" of the United States and a "rise of the Soviet Union."

The Minnesota lawmaker told conservative radio host Jay Sekulow the recent compromise among congressional Republicans and President Obama to raise the legal U.S. borrowing limit could give fresh vigor to Ronald Reagan's "evil empire."

"What people recognize is that there's a fear that the United States is in an unstoppable decline. They see the rise of China, the rise of India, the rise of the Soviet Union and our loss militarily going forward," she said.

"And especially with this very bad debt ceiling bill, what we have done is given a favor to President Obama and the first thing he'll whack is five hundred billion out of the military defense at a time when we're fighting three wars. People recognize that," Bachmann told Sekulow.

The Soviet Union fell apart two decades ago and is now 15 distinct nations.

How long now has the Soviet Union NOT been the Soviet Union?? Bachman should write her on history book with all the convoluted information she comes up with! What's sad is that there are many folks like her who don't know the difference when she makes these outrageous and erroneous statements! I think she's already proven what a 'ditz' she is!!

I think we should be far more worried about the rise of China; which holds a large portion of our debt. rather than these other countries.

not sure why everyone is getting upset over this. Maybe she can see the Soviet Union from the time machine in her backyard.

Wonder if she senses any threat from other past civilizations. Maybe Troy, or Prussia. Who knows. Point is, there all out to get us

I wonder who (if anyone) helps with MB's speeches or edits them? She holds herself up to ridicule or worse, yet believes she has the ability to lead a very large and diverse nation! I strongly believe that any presidential candidate should have an up to date grasp of national and world events, plus a strong knowledge of U.S. & world history. I used to assume that was the standard until I watched Sarah Palin's "speed briefing" with world leaders in '08. Now we have another ignorant candidate who argues when told she was wrong or blithely continues as if... YIKES! Our high school students aren't allowed to graduate without passing final exams-why not institute an exams for Presidential hopefuls?

Oh for Criminy sakes, Michelle put a cork in it. Nobody is worried about China, India or the Soviet Union attacking us. Don't we have enough other crap to think about without you inciting more fear.
