Vice President Joe Biden tells CBS News that published reports that he compared Tea Party-linked lawmakers to "terrorists" during a closed-door meeting Monday are "absolutely not true."

"I did not use the terrorism word," Biden told CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor Scott Pelley.

Politico, citing "several sources in the room," reported Monday afternoon that the vice president, during a closed-door meeting with House Democrats about the deal to raise the debt limit, agreed with an argument by Rep. Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania, who reportedly asserted that "[w]e have negotiated with terrorists."

The report said the vice president asserted in response, "They have acted like terrorists."

Biden told Pelley he let lawmakers "vent" about the deal, which includes spending cuts but may not include revenue increases. (Some liberal House Democrats have vowed not to back the deal.) But he says he did not assert that he agreed with the terrorism comparison.

"What happened was there were some people who said they felt like they were being held hostage by terrorists," he said. "I never said that they were terrorists or weren't terrorists, I just let them vent."

Added Biden: "I said even if that were the case, what's been happening when you now have taken and paid the debt and move that down so we can now discuss, the nuclear weapon's been taken out of anyone's hands."

Also during the interview, Pelley asked Biden: "I wonder, having watched all of this over the last few weeks, has Washington lost it's ability to make deals and talk to each other? There has been so much name calling, so much finger pointing."

The vice president responded by suggesting the situation is part of a "cycle."

"I predict to you that a lot of those new members who came here with my way or the high way, they'll either be on the high way or they'll learn that they have to have compromise," he said. "Compromise - I know its a trite phrase. Compromise is not a dirty word. In a democracy like ours, where you have such a heterogeneous group of people with different ways, that's the only way this place can work."

Biden told reporters following the meeting that he was confident that the debt deal will pass. His conversation with Pelley will air on the CBS "Evening News" Monday evening.

CBS: Please post the video of the interview in which VP Biden makes the denial. Do you have it? Why not post it if so? All you have is Pelley quoting VP Biden. Please explain why we can't hear the VP make the denial in his own words.

Lamborn didn't call Obama a "tar baby" either. How does it feel to be lambasted over nothing, Mr. Biden? Little different being in the cross-hairs of public opinion over an unfortunate turn of phrase, yes?

Then why did Lamborn apologize for what most people know was not an unfortunate turn of phrase?

Biden represents everything that is egregious about this administration and their attitude toward government of and by the people. These socialist would rather have a dictatorship than a constitutional free market system. Shadow government; czars; radical appointments; shutdown of domestic energy production; failure to respond to public's crisis with jobs; no foreign policy it all adds up to a disfunctional president/ vicepresident and Obama administration. Impeachment seems closer than ever before.

Any group that is willing to destroy in the name of ideological purity is a terrorist organization. Their new found fantasy of "fiscal responsibility" as a rational for the destruction of the world economy is laughable. Do they really want no government, no regulations, an armed citizenry, gold and silver hordes and no banking system? That this new found "to the death" fiscal responsibility bubbled up in their half-baked brains only in response to the overwhelming right-wing media crusade against Obama makes them a doubly dangerous, easily led mob.

The only question is, will Sarah P. or Michelle B. be the first leader of the New American Fascist party?

You realize you've just given the definition of anti-Fascism, right? Wanting the government to control less, tax less, and spend with its means is the complete opposite of Fascism. No, really. Look it up.

Fredo Biden is a serial liar.
He even lied about and smeard the poor truck driver that had the bad fortune of being involved in the traffic accident that killed Biden's first wife. The truck driver was cleard of any wrongdoing, but Biden had to make speeches accusing the poor truck driver of being a drunk driver. Biden's continued lying is a "Big f*cking deal". Obama would be wise to drop this old fool from his ticket.

The only difference between the Tea Party, and that neoNazi terrorist in Norway, is that the T.Party also scapegoats Mexicans, not just Muslims and Liberals.

The Tea Party, for your edification, is a group of fiscal conservatives you dope. Is there something wrong with wanting some fiscal responsibility with our money?
by zachgarber August 3, 2011 4:48 PM EDT
You forgot that the Tea Party also doesn't kill people. I realize that, very likely in your mind, it's OK for Wisconsin government unions to protest vigorously, stand on principle, and warn that the end is near if they don't like policies, but it's not for conservatives. That's because you agree with one group and not the other. But, of course, you'd call "crazy" anyone who called the Wisconsin legislators or protestors "terrorists"; and you'd be just as right to do that as you are wrong to call the Tea Party terrorists.

Obama called people who disagree "enemies".

Dept. of Homeland Security calls them "threats"

Biden calls them "terrorists"

Their supporters call them "racist".

See a pattern here? And the media wonders why there c an be no compromise. The well was tainted after Obamacare and no one across the aisle believes a things Obama or his cohorts say, and for good reason.

When there is mistrust, there can be no compromise.
