Alan Grayson running for Congress again

Former Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., a controversial politician who lost a re-election bid in 2010 to Republican Dan Webster, says he's running for office again in 2012.

"We need somebody who's gonna stick up for what's right. Somebody with guts," Grayson told WFTV on Monday.

In a Monday night campaign email, Grayson emphasized health care and home ownership issues as tenets of his platform.

"For the four million people in Florida who can't see a doctor when they are sick, and the fifty million nationwide, I'm in," he wrote. "For the 70% of all homeowners in Orlando who owe more than they own on their home, and the 25% nationwide who are 'underwater,' and feel like they are drowning, I'm in."

Grayson inspired controversy in 2010 after making a number of contentious statements in the lead-up to the 2010 campaign - both on the House floor and in advertisements attacking his opponent.

Perhaps most infamously, Grayson accused Republicans of callousness regarding their health care program: "If you get sick, America, the Republican health care plan is this: Die quickly," Grayson said in a heated speech on the House floor in 2009.

The Florida Democrat also took heat for a controversial 2010 campaign ad, in which he nicknamed his opponent "Taliban Dan" and manipulated video footage to make a misleading point about his opponent's views.

Grayson, however, credits a different reason for his loss in the 2010 elections.

"What went wrong with my campaign, and Democratic campaigns all over the country, is that Democrats didn't vote," he said.

Grayson, who filed the official paperwork on Monday, said he decided to run again because of outreach from supporters. He says he has already raised $100,000 from donors.

Whether or not he will be running for the same seat, however, remains to be seen: Due to redistricting plans in Florida, the ousted lawmaker could end up running for a newly-created seat in Orlando.

Alan Grayson was a breath of fresh air while he was in congress. He actually KEPT his campaign promises, and worked tirelessly (like a pit bull) for the people who elected him.
He did good things for his constituents.
The special interests and their dupes, the Tea Baggers, HATED him.
He had bad advice and ran the wrong campaign for re election.
If not for that mistake, He'd still be there doing the right thing.
Welcome back, Congressman Grayson!
We have sorely missed you.

Yeah Alan, glad your back. Would like to see you unseat Dan Webster. Mr Webster found it necessary to sign a "pledge of allegiance" to Grover Norquist, a non elected individual. I guess he needed someone to tell him what to do.

Webster, along with Posey, Adams, West, Rubio signed the Ryan's Kill Medicare Bill..also signed the Norquist pledge to take the government down at all costs if they dont get what they want....and they want your Medicare & Soc Security...

Where do I send my campaign contribution? We have had enough of this crap that our social security and medicare contributions are entitlements. We have had enough of the Neo Cons using our payroll money collected for our retirement and illness being used by the likes of the Koch family. We have had enough of our public servants being demonized. Two decades of tax loopholes and cuts for the so called "JOB CREATORS".....lies and damned lies....we need Grayson to call them out.

This moron would vote for him. He does not sign pledges or oaths to a person tht is funded by the Kochs. Republicans are determined to eliminate Medicare/SocSec... Grayson would not turn his back on Floridians. The electorate was lied to by the Tea baggers politicians stating they were interested in getting us jobs..All they were interested in was getting in..they have fought against us ever since....
