GOP Sen. Pat Roberts: Obama should "take a valium"

Updated 4:51 p.m. Eastern Time

Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas suggested at a news conference Thursday afternoon that President Obama should "take a Valium and calm down."

At the news conference, Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah complained that Mr. Obama has been unwilling to have a conversation with Republicans about his "plea to raise hundreds of billions of dollars in new taxes on job creators." Mr. Obama said Wednesday that Republican opposition to tax increases on "corporate jet owners" and other wealthy individuals as part of a deal to raise taxes is not sustainable.

Roberts' suggestion that Mr. Obama take Valium, a drug often proscribed to relieve anxiety, then followed.

"Maybe if he would just take a Valium and calm down and come on down and talk to us it might be helpful," said Roberts, who added that Mr. Obama's last meeting with Republicans was simply a "lecture."

Asked about the comment, Roberts' press secretary, Andrea Candrian, said the senator was just making a joke, as is his nature.

"That's the kind of guy he is," she said. "I think he was just trying to say 'let's just all take a breather and work this thing out.'"

I think it's spelled "prescribed".

Someone else needs to take a valium.
....
Opinions are not facts.

Cannot remember you own advice from the first sentence to the last sentence of a single post, hypocrite. Also once again you appear to dispensing medical advice without a license and without actually meeting with your patient -- at best legally that is both fraud (misrepresenting yourself medical professional treating someone you have probably never even met (just like the Terry Schiavo incident again) and Medical Malpractice. Then there could be an issue with the controlled substance laws too.

Obama needs valium?!

Already his delivery style is so rational and monotone that he seems comatose.

This fellow wants him less animated.

Dude, you are not on the Michele Bachmann using his music without permission story. I know it gets confusing for you just which RepubliKKKan is behaving the badly, as all of them are acting like the laws apply to everyone but them.

PointBlank asserts he personally and every elected official has the power to order medical treatment for anyone in the country he chooses regardless of the patients wishes (apparently contrary to the advice of the patient's doctor or any other physician too) -- At the patient's expense and not his own

When do you plan to start ordering mass sterilization of your enemies there PoingtBlank. You do realize that your fascist predecessors in the 1930's and 40's believed in the same power to usurp the power of others to control their lives too. You have just joined some of the most vile "human" in history with yur ponpous and egotistical belief in your power to determine what is best for OTHERS. Try figuring out what is best for yourself first and your loved ones first.

Will you PointBlank be ordering plastic surgery for all those with features you do not want to look at? Where does your OMNIPOTENT AND PERVERSE POWER to interference with the medical decisions of other end -- when they run out of cash to pay for treatments you order for them so you can starve them to death or force them to live in the street homeless?

How funny it is listening to Republican lawmakers throwing fits simply because the President asked them to do their jobs. So, now they come out whining and acting like a bunch of grade schoolers who have been disciplined by the principle. If they WERE doing their job the President would never had h have to say what he did. They know they are wrong that is why so many of them are coming out with insults towards the President. Congress seems to have forgotten their role. THEY, CONGRESS makes the laws, not the President. Perhaps if they did their jobs rather than trying to make President Obama a one term President, he wouldn't have had to embarrassed them as he did.

I agree. It comforts me, however, to know that the vast majority of them are on their LAST term in any political office. Their behavior in the public eye is (to use one of their favorite words) reprehensible. It's not Hollywood, boys and girls. It's real life ... and THESE are the "leaders" you elected. I notice not a single one proposes cutting congressional salaries and benefit packages as a part of cutting the budget.

Apparently the Republican Senators have already forgotten the TERRY SCHIAVO fiasco when they last chose practiced medicine without a license. Once again an elected public official attempts to inappropriately interfere with a doctor patient relationship. Do the Republican elected officials respect anyone else's right to run their own lives.

I mean the removal of a feeding tube that the Senate Republicans were later quite embarrassed about for intervening in a medical decision without even viewing the patient or talking to the medical professionals or significant others as to why the choice of treatment options was made. Your absurd position would seem to be that every person must allow any doctor to perform any procedure they feel could prolong the life of a patient without even consulting the patient. If you want to mandate medical care for others they DO NOT WANT --- YOU NEED TO PAY FOR IT out of your own pocket. And then get sued BIG TIME for interfering with the medical care / torturing of another person.

Decisions between Doctors and patients (including their appointed medical representatives or significant others) is not an option or responsibility of anyone else and especially YOU, PointBlank and the government.
