CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.

Overall views of Sarah Palin remain negative, according to the latest CBS News poll, with fewer than one in four Americans voicing a favorable opinion of the former Alaska governor. Almost half (48 percent) view her unfavorably. Republicans are far more likely than Democrats or independents to view her favorably.

Although she has not ruled out a bid for the White House in 2012, few Americans (22 percent) think Palin has the ability to be an effective president, while 64 percent say she's not up to the job. This view is shared by a majority of Democrats and independents. While Republicans are more divided, more of them think she does not have the ability to be an effective president than think she does.

Half of Americans Say Obama Failing on Economy

Even many Tea Partiers aren't jumping on board the Palin 2012 bandwagon. Less than half (47 percent) of those who describe themselves as Tea Party supporters think Palin has the ability to be an effective president, while 39 percent don't.

Tea Party Views

While most Americans have yet to form an opinion of the Tea Party, among those who have, views are mixed. Twenty-two percent of Americans voice a favorable opinion of the Tea Party movement, while almost as many (21 percent) view the movement unfavorably. Most people (56 percent) say they're undecided or haven't heard enough about the movement yet.

Among voters overall, a candidate's connection to the Tea Party may be more of a hindrance than a help. Only 16 percent of Americans who know about the Tea Party say a candidate's affiliation with the movement would make them more likely to vote for that candidate, and even more (29 percent) say that would make them less likely to support the candidate. For almost half, though, affiliation with the Tea Party would make no difference.

Not surprisingly, Tea Party affiliation is much more appealing to Republican voters.

The United States need not worry about terrorists, Muslims, or any other world power destroying our country. We are doing a great job doing that from within. Sarah Palin is giving tremendous assistance in the self destruction of the United States. I have voted for and respected numerous Republicans including Richard Nixon (a mistake), former Virginia Senator John Warner, Colin Powell, and current Virginia Governor Bob O'Donnell. It is shocking to see what has transpired since the year 2000. Since that time, we have had a Supreme Court that appointed George Bush president , had a Republican controlled congress give the wealthy unfunded tax breaks, a president who started two unfunded wars that has increased the federal deficit by 10 trillion dollars (from current ads Obama is responsible for this entire increase), whose deregulation support has caused economic chaos, and a Supreme Court issued a ruling that people, business entities, and or foreign governments can buy elections by contributing unlimited resources to influence elections without disclosing who they are. Then when forced from power, Republicans who says "NO" to any effort to alleviate and hardships on the American people. No one can correct in 20 months what over 10 years of wealthy rule has done to this country. Why can't we all take the action necessary to serve the ccommon citizen. I AM HEARING MORE AND MORE THAT WE ARE ON THE ROAD TO VIOLENT CONFRONTATIONS BETWEEN THE CLASSES. I am currently subscribing to this line of thinking. When this happens, the Republicans have no one to blame but themselves.

I HAD A DREAM THAT OUR POLITICAL LEADERS DEBATED WHAT WOULD BE BEST FOR ALL CITIZENS, NOT JUST THEIR POLITICAL VIEWS. THEN I AWOKE FROM MY SLEEP.

ONLY 22%!? It's a sad commentary on our country that there are so many people who would actually be willing to vote for a candidate who is so manifestly unqualified to be the leader of the most powerful nation in the world.

I'd choose Paris Hilton over Sarah Palin for President. I think Paris Hilton is much kinder and more generous to animals, children, and fellow humans, so my vote goes to Paris. From Alaska, figuratively you can see Russia... It's not very far away... Let me guess though, this is one of the things that you would disparage Sarah Palin about???

P0ST1ING_AWAY Sarah Palin never said that she can see Russia from her house! You are another one who confuses her with Tina Fey! That was Tina Fey who said that she can see Russia from her house in a skit mimicing Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live! The real Sarah Palin said that you can see Russia on a clear day from an island, owned by Alaska, in the Bering Sea. That is absolutely true but Tina Fey took that comment and twisted it and Sarah Palin has been mocked with it ever since! Now many people, like you, think she actually said that she can see Russia from her house!

Republicans are trying to say liberalization if falling around the world.
But what is really happening , is that Global Monopolies have brought their way into a Global power around the world ,, where citizens has no say.

Just look at the multi million dollars foreign countries have given to US Chamber of Commerce in which they have given multi million dollars to help republicans into office to make sure they receive and keep American's jobs.

Is it hate , lack of knowledge or what that Americans are voting for persons which you might as well say are employees of Corporate and Foreign powers.

Europe is trying to reverse course because they see their policies failing... Anywhere you see liberal policies instituted on a large scale it makes the nation poorer... Common sense should tell you that punishing success would do this... You're posts don't make much sense though, so... I may be asking a little too much for you to understand that...

Bush & republicans have totally sold American middle class and senior out for corporate profits & power ,even for the profits and power of FOREIGN CORPORATIONS.
If the 8 million jobs or more were not outsourced in Bush's administration and still home , the unemployment rate would be cut in half.
If Bush's tax cuts for the top 2 % of Americans were never passed there would have been over a trillion dollars to rebuild our infrastructure and create jobs with.
If Bush & company had not told lies , propaganda & committed treason to wage an illegal war on Iraq to transfer our tax money to the war contractors like Halliburton & Blackwater , that would have saved lives and billions in our tax money.
Republican never wish for people to talk or bring up their criminal or destructive policies they create , but love to use their destruction to attack & blame on democrats.
Obama & democrats took over a nation in which Bush and republicans had thrown over the cliff. For the middle class & seniors.
Republican destruction has not seen in our history since the Depression of the 1920's cannot be mended in just two years.
Especially when republicans are either filibustering or saying NO to stop all policies to repair their damage to win elections.

The only trickle down from Bush & republican administration went to China & India. Vote them back in power and your worst nightmares will come true.

Obama first year budget was left by Bush.
Bush knew this was the price tag on the budget he left Obama & the democrats because he proposed it himself. Excluding his bailout of the banks he push saying our county would fold in a month or two if not.

Obama had better buy a hat to pull some hat tricks out of if he intends to win re-election in 2012! He's going to need some big ones! For instance he'd better drop Joe Biden as his running mate and he'd better end the war in Afghanistan! He'd also better do something about the unemployment rate and generate some jobs! He'd also better go after the banks, finance companies and credit card companies and force them to lower their rates and people's payments! If he doesn't he won't have the chance of a snowball in ####! He might as well not even bother to run again! It would be a waste of time and money!

Here is something that might clear you head . . . . imagine Palin running against Hillary Clinton . . . . it would be no contest. Hillary is smart, well informed, and knows what she is doing. Palin is a dunce who thinks she can run for president when she knows nothing about intertnational affairs . . . she can see Russia from her house! Palin is an ignoramus.
