Christine O'Donnell: "I Dabbled Into Witchcraft"

Christine O'Donnell AP

Republican Senate nominee Christine O'Donnell doesn't need Facebook to dredge up her controversial past statements.

As a sometime conservative pundit a decade ago on Bill Maher's former show, "Politically Incorrect", O'Donnell said (in an appearance that wasn't aired) that she dabbled in witchcraft.

In the clip shown last night on Maher's current show, "Real Time," O'Donnell said:

"I dabbled into witchcraft -- I never joined a coven. But I did, I did. ... I dabbled into witchcraft. I hung around people who were doing these things. I'm not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do. . . . "

"One of my first dates with a witch was on a Satanic altar, and I didn't know it. I mean, there's little blood there and stuff like that. ... We went to a movie and then had a midnight picnic on a Satanic altar."

Below is the clip with the witchcraft quotes from 1999 via Think Progress:

These blasts from the past are making it more difficult for the candidate to improve her image, especially as the media spotlight becomes more intense.

After wowing conservative attendees at the Values Voter Summit on Friday, O'Donnell cancelled appearances on CBS News' "Face the Nation" and Fox News scheduled for Sunday. Her spokesperson said she canceled the national TV appearances to attend a Republican campaign event in Delaware.

In her speech at the Values Voter Summit, O'Donnell submitted that conservatives are being oppressed by a small group of ruling elite in Washington. "They call us wacky, they call us wingnuts," she said. "We call us, we the people," she said.

With her past dabbling into witchcraft, and statements such as, "American scientific companies are cross-breeding humans and animals and coming up with mice with fully functioning human brains," candidate O'Donnell will have to explain to the citizens of Delaware what's behind her some of her more controversial ideas past and present.

Where's Bill Maher and his tapes? I have not heard from him or others since Christine O'Donnell started moving up in the polls. I will say it again, listen to Bob Dylan "The last one now is later to win." There are plenty of media, pundits and the Democrats that do not want a whole plate of egg on there face, maybe just half. We are expecting an unemployment rate that is 10.1, so we are going in the wrong direction. Sharron Angle, who also made some studied remarks is leading Harry Reid. Christine is going to be swept in on a tide of anger and frustration and regrets that the American people have about losing their old lifestyles. When the Democrats left Washington that created a myriad of trickle down negatives for jobs and recovery.

i hope that everyone sees the christine o'donnells and sarah palins for what they are. political reality stars. their stupidity and fluff is an insult to women. Not sure if its the misogynists propagating idiots like this to keep politics an all boys club. But they keep doing what they do because we are entertained. This country is beginning to suck. Hopefully the mayan calendar is right and there will be a huge cleansing come dec.12,2012. Our "democracy" needs an overhaul, and lets hope next time around will give us candidates that are not attention seeking ****** but people who truly want to serve the people....and to be catty... really, sarah, leather. where are the whips and chains. this next idiot, christine, whats for her? phallic broom?

This misinformed girl is an atrocious to the modern American government and real life Wiccan followers everywhere. She proves that our government raises politicians who are uneducated about the real world around them. Lab mice with human intelligence? Wiccans suddenly being Satanic? Wiccans do not even believe in Satan, he is a by-product of Christian faith. Furthermore, modern, civilized Wiccans do not have blood on their altars at any given time. Sacrifice is a thing of the past, and their religion does not approve of harm to any living being whatsoever. This government is falling apart and women like Palin and O'Donnell are disgracing the female gender's ability to be just as intelligent, wise, and creative as males. This example also shows that the values of this society, such as freedom of religion and equal opportunity, are clearly falling apart.

Satanism and witchcraft are not the same thing. "Witchcraft" is the Old Religion of Europe prior to the mass conversion to christianity. Satanism is a form of christianity, albeit heretical. Witches do not have blood on or around their altars. Their altars are representations of Nature as they are pagan, earth centered forms of spirituality.

Wow,it's a regular Alice in Wonderland primary with Tea Parties and witches and heroic princesses comming from the backwoods, only wealthy, like Palin the Bear hunter and now CHRIS THE GOOD WITCH.
Hollywood has certainly had an impact on American politics but it's a real world out there and I don't want these people running my country. But I don't want the Democrats either because we aren't getting any better off like we were promised by that group of liers either. How about independent?

The Tea Bag is an insult to the remaining intelligence of Americans. I wouldn't hire someone like this for any job, even a garbage collector is beyond her intelligence. I'm waiting for something racist to slip out of her brainless mouth.

Ah redhawkone...
When they asked her is she was serious, then she described the experience and said yes, I am a witch. Go ahead and vote for her. That's your choice. I's like to serious people in office. Would you also vote for Miller in Alaska that says that Unemployment Insurance is wellfare? How about getting rid of social security and just throw grandma under the bridge when she can no longer work. She can pick out of the trash cans for food too I guess.
And health care reform. I am tired of your and your kinds non-compassion for those you deal with everyday. The guys who work for Taca Bell who have no insurance. And the health insurance program allows them to buy into the same plans that Federal employees buy into now. Why don't you stop being a ditto-head and start thinking for yourself.

If you think Obama is not controlled by the filthy rich then that is very sad.

I TOTALLY agree with you and I am sorry you got the impression that I thought Obama was the answer. He is just worlds better than Bushoccio. Our entire political and economic system is corrupted and on its last legs. That is why I joined The Other 98%. To stop corporate corruption. At least Obama criticized the activist, GOP, corporate Supreme Court for that awful ruling in Citizens United.
