Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to Hold Rallies on Washington Mall Oct. 30

Jon Stewart announced on "The Daily Show" Thursday night that he'll hold a rally on the National Mall in Washington D.C., on October 30. He showed some of the signs that organizers would be handing out at the event, which had slogans such as, "9/11 was an Outside Job." He said the message would be to "take it down a notch for America." The event is called the "Rally to Restore Sanity," and is for people who think neither Barack Obama nor George W. Bush is Adolf Hitler.

For fans of "The Daily Show," the news gets better. Stephen Colbert is participating, too. He's also holding a rally on October 30. It's called "The March to Keep Fear Alive," in keeping with his right-wing talk show host persona on "The Colbert Report."

At one point, Stewart called his event a "million moderate march."

The "Rally to Restore Sanity" website features a button with the warning, "Don't Click Here." By clicking the button, the viewer is transported to "The March to Keep Fear Alive."

On the "Sanity" site is the message, "Who among us has not wanted to open their window and shout that at the top of their lungs? Seriously, who? Because we're looking for those people. We're looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat."

On "Keep Fear Alive," readers are treated to the message, "America, the Greatest Country God ever gave Man, was built on three bedrock principles: Freedom. Liberty. And Fear -- that someone might take our Freedom and Liberty."

"The Daily Show" is taping in Washington, D.C., the week preceding the rally on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Sidney Harman Hall.

Imitation. The sincerest form of flattery. Now if either of them read some books (Hayek, Shlaes, Ferguson) maybe they could even get an audience like Beck.

And I believe Stewart-Leibovitz like Beck never finished college. Not sure if Colbert ever went at all.

Are you actually saying that Colbert and Stewart are "imitating" Beck by holding a rally on the National Mall? I'm pretty sure that has actually been done a few times before... Was Beck flattering all those who marched before him, then?
Also, both Stewart and Colbert graduated from college.

Oh, this will be fun. I'll be sure to watch. I'm already seeing articles saying there won't be any lasting effect from it (are they worried about that?) and I'm not concerned either way. I'm just glad they're doing it. I'm tired of the yelling and the name calling. I consider Glenn Beck's rally to have been a failure, since it was advertised for so long and for free on so many media sites besides those owned by Fox. Only 87,000 showed up? He should have pulled in so many more people if the country was really that inspired by him. But I guess not. I know he hurried onto Fox News and tried to claim half a million people, but the photos showed less than 100,000. That must have really hurt his credibility with the money people. Anyway, have fun all of you who have the good fortune to be able to be on the mall on October 30th. It should be quite a show!

Allow me to correct my own grammar before someone else catches it. That should be "fewer than 100,000." Whew!

Should be interesting, especially since Glenn Beck's rally was to be the last held there by anyone.

See what happens when you just listen to one news source. Glenn told everyone that the park's department said that there would be no more rallies held at the monument. LIES, ITS A LIE. Do you people EVER fact check before you repeat what glenn says. Here's an idea, google it. The parks department said they NEVER SAID THAT, rally can still be held there. See how stupid you sound, don't believe everything you hear - take 5 minutes and check your facts. In fact, i bet if you did some fact checking, you'll find out that your faithful leader is a sham.

Children watch our politicians on television. Is it any wonder why we have a bullying problem in our schools? Negative campaigning has become the norm for anyone seeking office. Negativity, demonizing and bullying are some of the lowest human qualities a person can possess. Yet, we have been victimized by those who are seeking power and personal riches.

Freedom from fear is supposed to be one of our most cherished freedoms. Actually, the only people we need to fear are those who would terrorize us for personal gain. There are many of those people among us today. When a politician starts attacking his oppent, turn off your TV because this person is a low life who does not deserve the time we spend listening to him or her. As human beings we are fearful enough without inviting those people into our lives to feed our fears. Let us get back to honoring those people who are worthy of our respect and who have good character who believe in truth and justice for all. We can do it. Dump the low lifers who drag us down.

Thank you Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert for being the only media to feel a responsibility to tone down the rhetoric and restore reasonableness to the national dialogue.

Jon and Steve, who do you think you are (wish you were), Glenn Beck?

You both are sometimes funny, always liberal and less witty than just plain sarcastic. Much of your audiences are so sophisticated that they think you are real newsmen, instead of just overly paid comedians.

Good luck with your "rallies," but if they're intended to mock those of 8/28 or 9/12, and the hundreds of thousands of regular Americans who attended them, then shame on you.

It will be interesting to see how many "hundreds" you can turn out, though. But, gee, why not hold your rallies on October 31? After all, that IS Halloween. Or would you then both turn into pumpkin political pundits?

Regular Americans? or real Americans? Just what that statemtn suppose to mean? Because if a person went to an ivy league school on a scholarship they are not regular Americans. You can't be a regular American if you don't vote republican? Not afraid of the terrorist? Believe in a women?s right of choice? Just what is a regular American? Gods, guns and Gays? Did you ever think maybe Stewart and Colbert have message delievered by comedy? Some Beck, Hanity and O'Riley are real news men?
MerrellObrian replies:

"hundreds of thousands"? What a joke! 87,000 is far from that! Glenn Beck is a Mormon, which automatically makes him, according to Christianity, a cultist. He's also a crybaby and a girl-boy. So, if Sarah Palin and Glenn are THE BEST you've got to offer, then, we've already STOMPED her into the past with the election and we'll be done with Beck soon enough.

I love Colbert/Stewart dynamic duo. Anyone who listens to Beck wont watch anything else because they are constantly told that all other media lies to them. I like to listen to Beck and the like to figure out what part of his show is going to get decimated by Colbert, Stewart, or Olbermann. I know a lot of people who also do the same. I have to wonder what percentage of their ratings belongs to this demographic. Ah well, at least we aren't buying from their corrupt sponsors...
