White House on Defense After Gibbs Lashes Out at "Professional Left"

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs delivered harsh remarks about his party's liberal base in an interview to the Hill newspaper recently, dismissing the "professional left" as unrepresentative of liberals "in America." Gibbs and the White House, however, have sought to downplay his remarks while at the same time maintaining that liberal dissatisfaction with President Obama is misguided.
Gibbs told the Hill that the "professional left" will only be satisfied "when we have Canadian healthcare and we've eliminated the Pentagon. That's not reality."
A number of liberal commentators have criticized the Obama administration on a range of issues -- such as giving up on the health care public option, a lack of action on repealing the military's "don't ask, don't tell policy," the continuing war in Afghanistan, and for taking an expansive view of executive powers some have compared to former President Bush's.
"I hear these people saying he's like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested," Gibbs said in the interview. "I mean, it's crazy."
Gibbs also reportedly said the professional left does not represent liberals "in America" who organized, raised money and voted for President Obama.
Gibbs later said he may have expressed himself "inartfully," reports the Atlantic's Marc Aminber, who is also CBS News' chief political consultant.
At a White House press briefing today, Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton acknowledged that "every single person in [the White House], including the person who lives here, can be frustrated at times" with the left. He added, however, that any frustration "is extraordinarily miminal compared to the focus pepole have on the work they're doing."
The president, Burton said is "not backing away" from the high standards by which the liberal base is judging him.
Burton, however, reiterated Gibbs' point that there is a "professional left" who may not represent most liberals.
"You have to separate out what folks say on cable TV from what progressives around the country think about how things are going," he said. "I think people are pretty pleased we were able to get health reform done, end the combat mission in Iraq."
Ambinder writes that "'professional liberals' often serve as guides, or curators, for the frustrations for unprofessional liberals -- regular liberals."
He continues, "These voters are frustrated because, for all of the President's legislative successes, there haven't been moments of clear triumph or moments of emotional catharsis -- or, when there have been such moments, like when the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff testified before Congress in favor of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, they evaporate quickly."
Ambinder notes that the wisdom of attacking the "professional left" in an election year in which Democratic voters are already less enthusiastic than Republican voters is questionable.
Politico's Ben Smith writes that "Gibbs' dig is a reminder that at the heart of this White House is a belief that Obama is president despite the Democratic Party, not because of it."
The success of Mr. Obama's presidential campaign was founded on grassroots support mobilized via an "alternative infrastructure," Smith writes, rather than traditional Democratic constituencies like unions, or even the liberal blogosphere.

You cannot be honest or integral when addressing the race issue without being called a bigot by liberals. Therefore, the very people who sit in such desperate need are destroyed by the power of the White liberal who thinks his ideas are better than God Almighty.
To castrate Tony Hayward and to be silent on Mr. Obama is Ridiculous Racism, with a Grand Canyon sized question mark about belief in Mr. Obama?s leadership abilities because he is Black (allegedly); after all his mother was White!
Finally, it is my goal in life to move the world away from racism. However, I cannot accomplish that goal without diagnosing the cancers of racism in many groups.
Remember, Obama must be stopped. He is encouraging racism, and systematically destroying this nation day by day. He is attacking the Constitution and making all the Federal Courts? decisions from the White House.

After 62 days of being in the place where the buck stops on the largest natural disaster in American history, (the BP Oil Rig Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico) Tony Hayward, BP?s CEO takes a day off.
It appears there is documentation that Mr. Hayward attended and participated in a glitzy sail boat race in the UK near White Isles on Saturday.
It is further documented that people in the Gulf Coast and around America are incensed that Mr. Hayward is taking a day to relax while this catastrophe continues.
White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel called it outrageous and Republican Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell says, ?Mr. Hayward needs a better Public Relations Advisor.?
Louisiana resident Bobby Pitre says, ?It ain?t right, that he goes yachting and we can?t even go fishing.?
This story has been running constantly on all News Channels in the US and made front page news in the Tabloids in England.
The slant on the story paints Mr. Hayward as insensitive, detached, and selfish.
It appears that the complainers believe that Mr. Hayward?s continued attention is critical to relieving and resolving the catastrophe.
However and conversely, Mr. Obama went out golfing with Vice President Biden yesterday. Last week Mr. Obama attended a play at the Kennedy Center where actor Laurence Fishburne was starring in the play ?Thurgood Marshall.? The week before Mr. Obama spent an evening at the White House being entertained by former Beatle, Sir Paul McCartney.
Let me explain to you the fine points of White Racial Guilt, Liberal?s Racism, and the continuing race war by 96% of American Blacks.
First, let?s identify White Post Slavery, Post Jim Crow, and mid to ongoing Civil Rights Racism. This brand of Racism is like Puppy Love. It is impossible to hide and only the afflicted think that it is fully concealed. Usually this kind of racism can be identified by the groups called ?Liberals? who are often democrats politically.
The reason why this kind of racist is unaware of his or her racism is because they exert so much time, money, and energy defending people who they only defend because they view them as social cripples.
They think that all their efforts represent proof that they are not racist. Like the young girl who pretends to ignore the advances of the young man when she is dying to have his attention.
The reason why the liberal racist expends so much energy assisting and defending Blacks is proof positive that they believe Blacks are less qualified and need extra concern or affirmative action.
The root cause of the above mentioned action is irrevocable belief in Superior and Inferior endowments in groups.
Moreover, these liberal ridiculous racist over-compensate in every social action towards Blacks when compared to the same reaction to members of what they believe to be the superior race.
Indeed, the liberal ridiculous racist have two sets of social actions and can be branded two faced.
Mr. Tony Hayward belongs to the superior race, and therefore should know better than to relax during this crisis. He should understand that hard work, passionate commitment, and sacrifice are the hallmarks of a great leader.
Taking time off represents an inability to understand, and systems of failure in those who relax during a crisis.
Moreover, because liberals believe that they come from a superior race they can get scolded for their guilt, with successful prospects of mending their ways.
Now on the other hand as for the inferior who attends Broadway plays, manages three games of 9 holes of golf per week, and is serenaded by one of the world?s most talented pop singers, there is deafening silence and tacit approval.
Put simply, the liberal racist does not expect the inferior to know the true lessons of life. Therefore, inferiors are held unaccountable as children who play in a storm, with no sense of danger.
In short the liberal racist does not expect the inferior to act like the superior and therefore there is this obvious racist double standard.
Thank God that not all Americans are liberals or democrats.
There are many Americans, a few of them Black who believe that both men/leaders should be held to the same standard.
Another and opposite kind of racism is the spiritual dilemma of the Black American or African. These Blacks wholly believe that all Whites for centuries have been evil and conspired to keep them inferior. It is a form of insanity, but the other view of historical Black and White relations is even more damning for Blacks.
These Blacks who testify that they have been held down these many centuries cannot conceive the reason why they are inferior; therefore their safe and ?sane? response to White people is to believe that White people are inherently evil; and use every opportunity to ill-treat them.
Black children learn racism much earlier than White children. Black racism explains why their fathers are not in the house, why Black men go to jail, and why the landlord will not send up heat in the winter time.
They learn and observe all the stores in the communities are owned by others and all the funding and institutions speak about the government as the place to go for help, even when in the church. By the time a Black child reaches school age, racism is so deeply planted that it becomes the greatest lesson of survival. The Black mindset is; know this, ?The man is out to get you.?
In many of the Blacks belief system they believe that things go wrong and hardly ever right no matter how hard you work. It is a convenient way of understanding the rampant failure rate of Blacks who attempt to do the same task or assignment of Whites.
Understand this clearly, 96% of all Blacks including and especially those with higher education or exceptional talents or skills are spiritually committed to hating all White people. Whites who sense this hate interpret it as justified and respond condescendingly.
The Black man?s social position is indeed tremendously problematic. It seems almost impossible to solve. To bring the Black man to social par with the White or Asian man has been the life?s work of many nobles, but the work remains largely unsuccessful.
What is clear is that the most consistent actions by White Liberals has been disastrous and the result has been to crippled Blacks and kicked the real answer further down the road.
That is his voter base that he just insulted
I wonder where they're going on vacation next?
FISA, GITMI, Health care non-reform, sell outs to every special interest group in the book, Financial non-reform, DADT, transparency (or the lack there of), failure to prosecute, vacations galore, poor response to the BP disaster, no jobs, insulting liberals, kissing a##es of the GOP, lying about "success", ignoring the will of the people.....shall I go on, Sir????
Obama is content that he should do this, or otherwise, he would get a real White House press secretary and replace Gibbs!
