John McCain: "Complete the Danged Fence"

Sen. John McCain is out with a new ad for his Arizona Senate primary in which he discusses the issue of illegal immigration with a border sheriff who tells the former GOP presidential nominee, "You're one of us."

Though tiny print at the bottom of the ad informs viewers that Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County is "appearing only in his personal capacity," Babeu appears in the spot in uniform, giving the impression that he represents all border patrol law enforcement.

"Drug and human smuggling, home invasions, murder," McCain says as the spot opens. He is seen walking with Babeu, seemingly next to a border fence.

"We're outmanned," Babeu responds. "Of all the illegals in America, more than half come through Arizona." He then goes on to tell McCain that the senator's border security plan is "perfect" because it brings together various law enforcement.

"And complete the danged fence," McCain says, as the URL CompleteTheDangedFence.com appears onscreen.

"It'll work this time," Babeu says, adding: "Senator, you're one of us."

McCain, who has called for National Guard troops to be deployed to the border, is facing a primary challenge from former Rep. JD Hayworth. Hayworth has hammered McCain relentlessly for supporting "amnesty" for illegal immigrants in the past.

The former Republican presidential nominee has moved to the right on a number of issues during the primary campaign.

McCain's solution CAN work, it is not unrealistic. McCain has been asking for troops long before he was even running against anyone for his re-election. McCain knows the difference our state faces day by day. McCain has said time and time again that the issues, the violence, the kidnappings, the abuse and drug problems are escalating by the moment and we need the Fed's assistance to secure our borders. McCain has the experience (yep, he is older) but all that much more wiser, to fight this administration on issues that are dire to our state and our Nation.

Yes to border security.

No to hate-mongering politicians turning Arizona into a police state.

I think John McCain should retire and enjoy his golden years a little. His little commercial does nothing to further the cause of stopping the invasion of America. He is now only a "Paper Tiger".
Comments made suggesting the deployment of the states National Guard Troops to the border are misguided. It is (believe it or not) illegal to deploy troops to our borders. Yes that's true. The only meaningful solutions reside at the federal level, and our government has forsaken us to pander to big business.
Our only viable solution is to vote out every incumbent (GOP & Dems) for the next 6 years, every election, and to continue doing so until they realize that they are only there to represent US, and not those with all of the money. 'Flush The Washington Toilet' so to speak,......

Sorry, John, but you are past your sell by date. We need some younger blood here in AZ. I won't be voting for you this year.

CBS stated in this article, "Babeu appears in the spot in uniform, giving the impression that he represents all border patrol law enforcement." This is biased reporting and leads the reader into a thought he would not have normally gone.

CBS, quite trying to create riots!!

arizona governor brewer is commander-in-chief of arizona guard forces so why doesn't she order them to the border? mccain is worth 100 million plus, including his wife's fortune, so he could easily help build the fence or provide private security guards along the border. mccain is for mccain, first and foremost, and that's just fine as long as we the people see it and understand it.
