Mike Huckabee Registers to Vote in Florida

AP

Mike Huckabee is now a registered Florida voter.

The Associated Press reported today that the former Arkansas governor and presidential hopeful registered as a Florida Republican on February 22.

In addition to the time spent in New York City filming his weekly Fox News Show, Huckabee and his wife Janet rent a house in Miramar Beach on the Florida panhandle.

It seems they have taken a distinct liking to the Sunshine state.

According to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Huckabee's wife Janet signed a "Declaration of Domicile" in Walton County, Florida, in March.

Huckabee's daughter, Sarah, told the paper in an e-mail that her parents still plan to keep the house in North Little Rock, Arkansas that they purchased in 2006.

"Some of his personal business activities dictated the Florida residency," she wrote, without further elaboration.

By registering to vote in Florida, Huckabee has made a sworn statement that he is a resident of that state and not eligible to vote in Arkansas, Tim Humphries, general counsel for the Arkansas secretary of state's office told the Democrat-Gazette.

Huckabee, who occupied the Arkansas state house for over ten years before he ran for president, has not given a clear indication whether he will make another run for the White House in 2012.

The former governor also made news recently when he likened gay marriage to incest and polygamy. Last week, Huckabee told college journalists that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt. "Children are not puppies," he told The College of New Jersey campus paper.

Huckabee has not been shy to throw his hand into the politics of his new "home state" either.

At an event in St Petersburg on Tuesday, Huckabee compared Republican Florida Senate candidate Marco Rubio to Barack Obama and said he wouldn't be surprised if he ran for the GOP presidential nomination.

"I'm awfully proud to say I was with (Rubio) when he was 50 points down, not 50 points up," Huckabee said. "Now I feel like a prophet."

Huckabee is a good guy, he will not run for president again. Remember the few states Florida being one of them with no state income tax are gaining lot's of new residents.

I find it amazing that anyone would entertain the idea of this man becoming president of the United States. Since when is he an authority on homosexuality. What gay people do together seems gross to me, but I would not expect that to mean it is wrong, or should be illegal. The idea of two fat people getting it on could also make me vomit, and I do not approve of mixed (black/white) relationships either, but those are just my opinions, and I would not expect, or ask, others to feel that way simply because I do. What 2 people do in their bedrooms is their own business, and we should mind our own business and stop being afraid of them, I am told it is not catchy. The idea of this guy admitting his beliefs this way scares me. What other rights does he want to deprive people of? I can say the things I have said here only because I am not providing my name. I cannot imagine anyone supporting this man that is openly a bigot.
