"Slaughter Solution?" GOP Uses Lawmaker's Name to Hit Health Care

(Credit: AP/CBS)

The Republican Party already has plenty of evocative phrases with which to hammer the health care reform effort: "Government takeover," "ram down our throats," "job-killing monstrosity."

Now House Republican Leader John Boehner's office has come up with perhaps the most striking entry yet: "Slaughter Solution."

In a blog post on Boehner's site, Dave Schnittger writes the following: "The twisted scheme by which Democratic leaders plan to bend the rules to ram President Obama's massive health care legislation through Congress now has a name: the Slaughter Solution."

The "Slaughter" here is House Rules Chairman Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), who CongressDaily reported Wednesday is "prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill." She is reportedly considering putting forth a rule that would dictate that the Senate version of the bill is automatically passed through the chamber once the House passes a corrections bill making changes to it.

That's all a little complicated, of course: "Slaughter Solution," by contrast, is not. It also manages to correlate passage of the health care bill with, as Merriam-Webster defines the word slaughter, "killing of great numbers of human being."

Who needs "death panels" when you've got that?

I personally can't wait for my "substandard" health care. It'll probably beat the piece of crap I have now from a private company.

I've been to countries where health care is "socialized," and it works great. The people you hear complaining about have non-issues, like warts, paper cuts, and stubbed toes. I contracted a stomach virus while visiting in Israel, and the doctors took me in right away. While I was in the waiting room, I talked to a woman who had epilepsy, and she told me how glad she was to have doctors readily available, because she worked in a small bakery that wouldn't be able to afford privatized health care.

Did you hear that Republicans? Israel has socialized health care. In fact, lots of countries the US likes have socialized systems in place that work better than any institution built on privatization. We're one of the only countries, barring places like Somolia, that don't have a humane system for healthcare.

I can't believe people are in favor of keeping the old system where companies can price gouge and selectively choose what conditions you can have treated without being exhorted.

How about you focus on the substance of the issue instead of crying about the name? Deeming legislation has passed without actually voting on it is a "Banana Republic" type of governance. Can get any more dishonest. For all you Democrats who want passage of this piece of garbage legislation no matter the means, it will come back to bite you in the behind. I am a proud convervative who believes in freedom first and government last. You do not have the right to impose your restrictions on my freedom.

SO which part of the bill limits your freedom? I'm curious to know. You Republicans live in this bizarre utopia where the free market really exists (although it never has and never will), and companies really listen to their customers and obey the natural laws of economics. And if you try hard enough, you might be as rich as hmifc. Yeah right, just look at the rail road companies of the 1800's and the current banking fiasco.

I also find it funny that Republicans, with all their talk of freedumb and low taxes, railed against those who didn't want the war in Iraq due to the very reasons they don't want the health care bill. I'd rather my tax dollars go towards actually helping individuals than bombing a country where we're not really sure if we're helping them or not.

This is what passes for journalism in this country now, a rancid piece of biased trash disguised as news. You people are disgusting, and that's why you're going down the tubes as fast as you are.

Those dastardly Republicans are at it again. This should have obviously been called the Honorable Democratic Congresswoman from New York and Chairwoman of the House Rules committee for the 111th United States Congress Solution.

I'm sure this objective journalist is just as incensed about the Hyde Amendment and the Stupak Amendment. I look forward to searching his past articles to see if he did as outstanding a job expressing his dismay as he did for this article.

Main thing is: "we are" choosing to have our beloived government -headed by the historic, wise, all caring, unique, beloved best president we ever had control our healthcare, the industry and related businesses. I see you do not know this, but demokrat$ call this a 3 legged seat: they already PASS into law the first 2 in the "stimulus bill" (but NOBODY noticed??!!)all the fight now is to pass the 3rd and last leg for total control.

For the nervous among us: relax! When the law passes as Obama is pushing for, and after all the bribes, arms twisting, warnings, etc used to get the necessary votes ends, Obama/dems promise that we will be enjoying the extraordinary and unique benefits that all the government run-enterprises produce. (Of course: the all-carinf members of Kongre$$ and the president will excempt themselves of that enjoyment and will NOT change a bit their healtcare programs). And the cost -of course bear by ALL taxpayers- is going to be "less"..They promise!

To understand a bit our benefits coming, just dig a bit in outomce produced by government run entities like: AMTRAK, Post Office (by the way: do not expect mail on Saturdays!) Fannie Mae (just "lost" $72 Billion last year..added to $250B LOST in previous year....our taxes have to be increased soon to make up all this!you can thanks "uncle Frankie and retiring Chris to start..) Freddie Mac, Social Security (do I have to explain you that in mere 23 months will run out of money?...full of worthless IOU's from every member of Kongre$$), etc...get the pic?

How is 'Hope & Change' working for you guys so far?....still 3 yrs to go!

Let me point out that the Dems had ONE YEAR to pass a health care bill. During that year, they had IRON CLAD control over the White House, the House of Representatives, and the Senate.

And yet, somehow, they DID NOT PASS THE LEGISLATION!

All of you who are constantly complaining about "Republican's antics" should be complaining to and about the Democrats, for their abject cowardice in failing to pass a bill. That is, if passage of a health care bill is in fact what you actually desire.

If, instead, all you really want is to make partisan attacks on "the other side", please, carry on, you're doing just great!

The woman's name happens to be "Slaughter", but somehow, that's the fault of the GOP? Or did you not intend for this article to be taken seriously?

And oh, yes, you just happen to neglect to mention the fact that what the Slaughter rule proposes to do is to "deem" the Senate health care bill passed by the House WITHOUT AN ACTUAL VOTE. But apparently you consider that fact "a little complicated" for your readers to understand, so you childishly zone in on the Congresswoman's name as if there's some issue there.

The frenzied right wing senior bloggers here simply serve as a daily reminder of the inherent antisocialness and nardcissism and basic lack of honesty which is fundamentally inherent to the entire right wing. They have no remorse for their lack of virtue. They, quite the opposite, revel in their inherently pedculiar psychology, and lack of common uman decency or virtue. They are lost souls.

reveal,
You live in quite a fantasy land, don't you.
In Obama we have the most narcissistic, meglomaniacal, self-centered president we've ever elected, who is hell-bent on taking over 1/6 of the economy in the name of 'saving us' from ourselves.
But you know as well as I do that the Government will do nothing to 'help' but instead create untold new layers of government waste and bureaurocrats to gum up the system far beyond how it is now.
There will be tax increases of historic proportions to pay for it.
Premiums will explode beyond anything we're seeing today, and you KNOW that's true.
Obama wants to destroy, not fix, the current system so when that happens the Democrats can come and claim to fix things by ramming single payer down our throats.
And by the way, reveal, you're not as smart as you think you are.
