Syria's first lady has put out the welcome mat for the Obamas, a further sign that the once frosty relations between the two nations is thawing.

In an interview with Britain's Sky News, Asma al Assad envisioned her husband, Bashar, and Barack Obama joining forces.

"The fact is President Obama is young," al Assad said, "and President Assad is also very young as well, so maybe it is time for these young leaders to make a difference in the world."

Asma was born in London and moved to Damascus after marrying Bashar al Assad nine years ago.

Last week, the Obama administration announced it was sending an ambassador to Syria for the first time in four years.

Although we (Arabs) do not agree with most of the foreign policies of the US, but we can understand the reasons behind it, preventing good men like Mr. Obama of doing anything, Jewish lobby in the American media and congress mainly, however we also understand that the US is the most important country on this planet, and it is really a pity seeing all this greatness wasted because of the old story, one republican president destroys everything, and the next democratic president rebuilding, and the story goes again and again, wasting all resources in between ? it is God?s irony doing to you the same thing you are doing to Iraq in a much bigger scale.
As for this great woman, she finished her schooling from Queen's College in London, with four A-Levels in Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science and French. She then attended King's College London and graduated with a Bachelor of Science 1st class honors degree in Computer Science and a Diploma in French Literature. After university, she started work at Deutsche Bank Group in the Hedge Fund Management division covering clients in Europe and the Far East. In 1998, she joined the Investment Banking division of J. P. Morgan (New York office), and she speaks four languages Arabic, English, French, and Spanish ? all before she got married!!
But still, some of you are submitting disrespectable comments because she is also a lovely good looking woman, so please stop lecturing us about women rights.

My name is Nicole I now live in Canada, but was born and raised in Santa Barbara California. I recently came back from Damascus syria. My husband is not into travel so I went alone, no tours. The Syrian people were wonderful, and very kind. I felt completely safe. Among the beautiful mosques are beautiful churches. There is so much misconception about Syria. The world needs to know that Syria is not a threat. People that are afraid for the United States to talk with Syria are very nieve. If the Obamas or anyone visits they will see how safe and friendly Syria actually is.

My name is Bob and its spelled B O B

Its not the people in goverments like Syria that make decisions of whether they want to be terrorist supporting states .

Its the dictators who run them.

I'm sure the Syrians are all nice and so but don't be that naive

I am Syrian living is Syria, I totally agree with you, and It feels very strange when people like Mr. earth562 telling me from the US who is a dictator and who is not.
first, our president is not a dictator, second, 1000 dicator like Saddam is better than the so called freedom you made in Iraq.

The Assads have ruled Syria for over 40 years. If the US needs dictatorship lessons, this is a good place to start.

Where did you hear that from? ...Druggie Limbaugh or junkyard dog Sean Hannity?

You're just a partisan tool for BIG FAILED BANKS.

Our enemy is the British Empire or how you understand it as Wall Street/City of London.

So you've fallen for the propaganda that the Knights Templar would WANT you to believe? Because we all know how they rule through a joint session of the Trilateral Commission and the Star Chamber.

The problem is she's the first lady- She don't run the country no more than Michelle does here.
