CBS Staffers Embark On Memorial Journey

(CBS)

Three CBS News staffers have set out on a memorial bicycle trip to honor the memory of Paul Douglas and James Brolan, two colleagues who were killed three years ago by a bomb blast in Iraq. Above, Paul is on the left and James is on the right.

The trio decided to embark on the 200-mile ride from London to a memorial for fallen reporters in Bayeux, France, to raise funds for two charities selected by the Douglas and Brolan families.

All the money raised — and to date the figure stands at more than 18,000 British pounds — will be split between The Rory Peck Trust and Reporters Without Borders, two charities which work tirelessly to protect and support journalists and their families around the world.

London deputy bureau chief Andy Clarke, video editor Mark Ludlow and cameraman Andy Stevenson describe themselves on their ride blog as, "not-so fat anymore, and not so-unfit anymore," thanks to their training regime.

Now, they're off... off to France and, very quickly, off their bikes. The first fall, blamed on a broken chain, took place about a hundred yards from the starting point. Skin and lycra damage notwithstanding, they've continued.

The next 199-odd-miles? Time will tell. Somewhere, Paul and James are having a good giggle.

Not disputing that it's a very worthy undertaking
by the the three CBS staff members but in reading
the article awaiting the disclosure of the members'
area of employ I must admit to having the less-than-
Memorial-day thought that it might be three
Comment Board Moniters in a two-month
journey away from their work,,,

No no, ,,not a wish just a flash thought.

Wow. I joked in the "Terminator Article" about the CBSnews.com reporting, and I didn't even consider this. After reading Alpha10000's post, I feel humbled in light of his observations, and feel sorry for what could be interpreted as making light of "News Professionals in the Trenches". I agree with everything Alphaa10000 wrote.
