Could Norway rampage suspect go to posh prison?

Anders Behring Breivik

Norway terror attack suspect Anders Behring Breivik, left, sits in an armored police vehicle following a hearing in Oslo July 25, 2011, where he pleaded not guilty to one of the deadliest modern mass killings in peacetime.

A Norwegian prison where confessed spree killer Anders Behring Breivik could spend the rest of his life has been cast as more of a comfortable retreat facility than an institution protecting the public from dangerous criminals.

Breivik is being held in isolation as he awaits trial for killing at least 76 people in a coordinated attack on the Scandinavian country's government Friday. He has confessed to going on a killing spree a governing Labor Party island camp, gunning down at least 68 people, and detonating a bomb at government headquarters in the capital, killing at least eight more.

Norway suspect's claim of allies in doubt

The British newspaper The Telegraph focused on Norway's 1-year-old Halden Fengsel prison as a possible place where Breivik could serve his likely sentence. With a flatscreen television for every cell, cooking classes in its "kitchen laboratory" and female prison staff to create a less aggressive atmosphere, Halden was intended to have its inmates re-enter society better than when they left it to serve time. That approach to its prison system has given Norway a 20 percent recidivism rate for the first two years after convicts are released.

But the man behind the worst attack on Norway since World War II might never re-enter society. While the country limits prison sentences to a maximum of 21 years, Breivik can continue to be incarcerated after his sentence if he's still considered to be too dangerous.

Prosecutor: Breivik expects to spend life in prison

If anything, the speculation about Breivik's fate shines a spotlight on a different country's approach to punishing criminals. For a tour of Halden, check out a photographer's gallery here or watch the YouTube video below:

Most likely he will have to be kept in isolation, because many criminals want to kill him.

Your infatuation with child molesting should be looked into. I'm not sure whether you are a molestor or molestee (perhaps both). What I do realize is that you are a colossal a$$hole. Your barely literate rant is the perfect representation of what can be spewed by a troglodyte who is the embodiment of stupidity, ignorance and coprophagia.

Breivik's manifesto reveals that he got his neonazi ideas from Fox News, the Tea Party, and right wing ideologues in America. It's only a matter of time before this happens here, too.

I am a Norwegian living in the US, and it makes me sad and angry to think that this horrible person is going to enjoy the very comfortable Norwegian prison system for the rest of his life. In Norway we have a saying - "Better to go to prison than to the nursing home". If he was to really suffer, he should be locked up in one of the sad nursing homes in Norway that are understaffed, filled to capacity so people have to sleep in the hallways and bathrooms, have to go to bed before 7 pm, share rooms with people who have advanced dementia, and get a shower once per week if you are lucky. That is another reality of Norway - investigate it for yourself if you do not believe me. Sure, you are guaranteed a spot - you just have to wait in a long line before there is room for you, and you really do not want to go there at all. THAT is where Anders Breivik should be spending his days.

leopard, you are delusional. You can't get more right wing than muslem militants. Let's see: religious fanatics, won't tolerate other viewpoints, fundamentalists, view their views as god's view.
Sound familiar? Just substitute christ for the desert pedophile and you've got the christian right and tea-b*ggers of this country.

talis4 Why do you enjoy slandering millions of Christians, who are conservative in their practice of their faith? Show us proof of theses statements in print from the Christian right and teabaggers? Or, stop slandering them.

Just how is America suppose to treat our crimmals. They go in and become more harden. Norway has the right to do as they see fit with their immates. Most are poor and with health issuses here in America. What I can't understand as a blind person is if Nonway is good to their citzens why would this person snap and kill others. If the man is mentally ill why did they not see the signd of it and help him. I feel for the people lost loved ones.

Breivik's incarceration in a posh prison is a perfect example of why the liberals abolishment of capital punishment is a total failure!

Much like their most of their misconstrued conceptions are!

Come on now, the only difference between criminals and normal citizens is crimes that they have done within our society. With moral relativity and theological liberalism at work why should we judge them as evil. They just have a different set of morals/norms than the majority of the society. Maybe they will even offer him "conjugal rights" with his girl or boy friends? Hey the sky is the limit with moral relativity and theological liberalism. What was once right may be wrong; what once was wrong may be right...don't judge.
God have mercy on us all!

paid4congress How do you define "love"? It's sure not the Biblical concept of love. "Speak the truth...in love." But, since you are a theological liberal, I thought if you comprehend what I am saying.
